Hello,
Since you guys seemed to like my Giulia with the jtd engine i thought i would share a few pictures from another project I'm working on.
This opel kadett belongs to my friend Nick. He is a car hoarder who owns something like 40 cars and many of them are modified in some way. Engine swaps are very common. Appearances are always on second place, performance comes first.
The kadett was purchased in Belgium and was in a very good condition. Paint has surface rust due to standing under a tarp but the car has no rot. Very rare for a kadett. It had been in a barn for the last 25 years or so, that probably helped.
Being 40+ years old makes it tax-exempt in Holland so the decision was made to put a diesel in it. Plenty of power and torque that makes for a nice daily driver to replace his golf mk1 tdi.
Same as with my alfa we decided a 4 cilinder is no good, sounds like curse word. Luckily we have some experience with the vag 2.5 tdi found in early audi 100/a6. These were also used in volvo 850.

The engine came out of a volvo. It has a shortened aluminium oil pan from a volvo 6 cilinder diesel and also the bellhousing from that engine. Via an adapterplate a getrag 265 is fitted.
There are bigger nozzles for the injectors and a big vnt turbo from a 210bhp iveco daily. Engine will het a vw t4 loom and ecu to control it and should make around 250 bhp and 500nm. Enough for a 1000-kg car.
Mini Cooper discs up front with porsche 4 pot callipers and vented rear discs for stopping the car. Braided hoses every where and a hydraulic handbrake. Front axle boxed in and pu bushings everywhere.
Rear axle is a custom affair. Based on an alfa 75 rear axle but modified with bmw parts like hubs, driveshafts and diff. Has a lsd and long final drive to use the torque.
We hope to finish the car in the next few months. I'll update the story then. 😉

Such a cool car! 3-door stationwagons, is there any concept that is more retro than this?

What a lovely project! I'm really impressed with the rear suspension / axle arrangement you've fabricated there. I believe this is the same / similar engine as in the 2000 VW LT35 2.5tdi ive just acquired... I like the sound of 200+ horse powers! Mine is only the 88bhp version, although I've been given some injectors from the 102bhp version from a chap I work with. I've stuck a cone filter on it, chopped off most of the exhaust and got rid of the cat (I've no ethical issue with this as it was doing absolutely nothing anyway.) I've blanked off the EGR, replaced all the vac lines and fitted a boost gauge - it peaks at 12psi but tends to hover around 9psi under load. I've just ordered a cheapy bleed valve to see what I can wind the little turbo up to but I'd like to fit a big turbo to it and go for some daft boost. I think I might be limited in boost pressure by what the standard boost sensor can handle, or so I've read somewhere? I was thinking of a truck turbo, maybe something off a 6 cylinder Cummins or Iveco like yourself, I've bookmarked this now to see what you get up to but i'm really interested in any engine work you have planned, tips and tricks

These engines were used in Audi 100/A6, Volvo 850/V70/s70 and VW T4. Not too sure about the LT2. We have converted some old LT's to these engines as they are a lot better then the 2.4 6 cilinder diesel engine.
Volvo engines are often the 140bhp version and could be chipped to 170bhp. Engine is capable of more.
Kadett engine is a Volvo one. Wiring loom from a golf mk4 tdi modified to work with the Volvo injectionpump.vw T4 ecu is easier to map and gives vnt turbo control. Turbo is changed to BMW E60 3.0d one modified to vacuüm vnt. Bigger injectors to provide enough duel.
Car did it's first donut and allready runs quite good. No mapping was done, just immo off on the ecu. Probably limp mode as well since there is no maf available.
Hopefully the owner will be able to get it registered soon so we can get it mapped.

The Opel has been on a journey to the north off the Netherlands totdat, to Marum, where Van Vught Tuning is located. We fitted bigger injectors and an electric liftpump to make sure it got enough fuel. After linearizing the map sensor and fixing some other maps it made 252 bhp and 510 Nm. It sure moves now...
