In an effort to prevent the loss of my appendage I have ground a small slot in the spring loop, which the chain link sits in nicely. The link was then crimped tight to stop the spring coil rotating and dropping off. A small weld on the back would make it even more secure but didn't really seem to be needed. The shackle just makes it easy to remove if I decide it looks silly or I want to tow someone.

Just make a longer chain... would be fun on one of those high 4x4s, with a 3 foot chain. Or not.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery...... or something like that. I think its a cool idea TBH and thought it was only a matter of time before it started catching on

Needs to be lower! It could be. But i'm a big sissy who crys about speed bumps. There are three huge ones that i have to negotiate to just get into the work car park - its a school so you can imaging what the speed bumps are like - they are not subtle. I recon its why all these mums need 4x4s. The ring tips are 50mm off the ground. With an extra link in the chain it looked a bit ridiculous.

Yes! I'm making another one as we speak. I'm not sure how mine managed to come off, although I was rather drunk when I put it on so maybe my workmanship wasn't quite what it should be! ;D
I'd love to have it scraping the ground but I don't know what the law says about that... don't really fancy getting a tug because my ring's dragging on the road (!) ;D

AFAIK it's a rip of the bososoku style, where they put handles from the japanese subway on their bumpers to show they don't care about the law (stealing)

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Go for it! Mine 'pings' as I go over bumps ;D AFAIK it's a rip of the bososoku style, where they put handles from the japanese subway on their bumpers to show they don't care about the law (stealing) It also shows - over here - as a subtle 2-fingers to the 'spring chopping is for losers' brigade Looks silly imho. No need to copy everything we see in Japan! how about taking influence, changing it, and making it 'our' own?? (like almost EVERYTHING in the car-modding world?)

Copying? Ripping off?
Why are people using such derogatory terms? It's referencing - a nod to the styles and cultures that influence us and that we admire. The chopped spring is an entirely new take on it too - and a clever one, if you ask me.

I'm aware of how silly a subway handle, or a piece of coil spring hanging from your towing eye is - I thought we all were, but I'm surprised at how much it has been taken out of context by some people in this thread. I've had one for a while now - but I've never felt that I was copying or ripping off a style. It's just a reflection of my interests.

Attach a skateboard to the back instead.....then random kids could hitch a ride. See if that takes off in Japan

I like it, I just see it at a rat version of the J mod. Plus for me I think it can work on any derrived car unlike the Subway ring which tends to only look good on J wagons.
