It wasn't that long ago they were going to introduce 2 year MOTs.
The MOT on my daily will get automatically extended but I'll take it in anyway as I'd rather have a summer test. It's more pleasant doing repairs when it's warm!

I think BenzBoy is saying the opposite - he's getting it tested earlier - in August rather than waiting until autumn.

I'm also using it to my advantage. I'm on holiday each July and April. The van MOT has just expired. I'll be getting it done in a couple of weeks as that way, if it fails, I'll have the time during a warm day to fix it. Same thought process with the acclaim. I've always planned to get in done in the summer as fixing it on a driveway in November isn't great.
Do I expect the cars to fail? No. Do I try and keep them safe and road worthy? Yes. Do I have access to lifts and brake rollers which shows up stuff which slowly degrades over time? No. That's why I still get MOT exempt stuff tested.

I too was hoping to move the date of my MOT so I wasnt laying under it in March/April but I wonder if they will back date the MOT once its tested to the original date? Has anyone had a test yet?

I’m annoyed that mine has moved to November because I don’t want to have to repair it in the cold either... so I’m taking it soon 😆

My MOT expires soon and will be extended due to COVID, but I will take it for a test soon regardless because I don't want to wait the extra 6 months and have a winter test from then on. A car can become unsafe / unroadworthy on the drive back from the test centre so it's up to the owner to keep an eye on things whether it's freshly MOT'd or has hardly any ticket left...

My MOT was due 18th of March - Got it done - needed rear bushes to pass the retest. Bushes turned up within the retest time but then C19 happened and I still have no idea if my car can have the extension - does anyone know?
I had another car to use so I just sorned it.

Good, now traffic is back up to normal levels and the majority of people are happy to carry on as normal as they can do, then there is no reason why you cant get a MOT. If you can pop to BNQ, screwfix, park, beach, shops then you can pop to an mot station.
Will be plenty of COVID mot cars running around on the roads for the next 6 months that will never seen another MOT pass and would be in the scrapyard otherwise.
My daily has been jacked up more and had more money spent on it since lock down than its lat few years combined by far. Changing everything that could need doing in the next few years while i have the free time.

No you have no valid MOT because it was before the 30th march when the scheme was started, check on dvla website mot check. Cars get the extension added around 7 days before due date.

The soothing comfort of self-deception... If that's a pop then I can assure you that I'm 100% convinced the van is safe during it's current use. It's not been driven since November and the next time it goes on the road will be on the way to the test centre after a driveway pre-check. I doff my hat to all who check the inside of their tyre wall, get a lever in their suspension to check bushes, have a brake roller to check for inefficiencies, make sure all the door handles work from the inside, test the emissions coming out the exhaust and check every single bulb on their car before they even consider pulling into traffic. I wish I could do all that as then I'd never have a MOT failure, ever. But I have had cars fail. I'm sorry. 😭

The article said: My car is fine, but everyone else is driving a death trap . Just like surveys say that everyone thinks they are an above average driver.
