Alright bipeds, Current distraction piece herein. May work out well. May well end in disaster. Decide for yourselves based on my appalling track record on projecty things. What do we know? It's rare AF. There's like 5 BASE models left on record, and some of those might be 4/5-door models. They sold naff all of these new. They rarely appeared in sales material and were quietly dropped after a couple of years. I saw one figure that was ~200 of this body type sold to private customers. A number did go to HM armed forces as 'staff cars' but who knows if any survivors are in/out of the figures. It's not been on the road since 1995. (Cripes). So far all I know is that the engine isn't seized, and that there is some sort of current in the electrical system. Ignition doo-dah arrived today so maybe tomorrow I can get the engine turning over. No chance of firing as the petrol tank is currently sitting on the back seat. I suppose it's not the end of the world if the engine is b0rked, as I also have what I think is an SR Nova unit coupled to a 5-speed box (which would be preferable). Supposed to be a lock-down project, but working absolutely flat-out at the minute so progress is very slow. And before ya'll ask, no I won't be 'sticking a redtop in it'. It'd be nice for my largest youth to be able to pilot it at some point, rather than the sensible but boring Hyundai that he's currently permitted to potter about in under supervision...

Being a 1.3 does make it rare indeed, try and get it running these don’t usually require to much for them to run, just spark and fuel in the carb, the hydraulic valve lifters may have dropped over time but as soon as these see oil pressure they should come back and operate as long as they are not stuck. Sounds like you have an electronic ignition module the 1.3s originally had points and condenser worth checking the whole system to make sure the electronic side of it works.
I will be following this with great interest.

Looks a solid old motor. The mk2 cavvys are the absolute dogs danglers in my opinion. Last one I had was a GT 2 door saloon in bright red.
Whats the plans? Any more piccys ?

omg pog in da howse poglet not so smol now do not paint obvs excellent Stand by, just running this through google translate... Fret ye not, I am fluent in HAIRNET, so I know what he's on about at least. Reference is to my lad being now a 6ft adult, as opposed to the toddler who accompanied me to RR events in the early days of the forum. Some small progress today, new ignition fitted, but unable to test as my booster pack was flat from trying (and failing) to give life to the beastiebus which shat it's battery last night. Having spent £100 on sorting that, I'll wait till next week for a new one for the cavalier. Still, it makes clicky sounds that sound right.

Been looking at these on stealthstylz Brazilook thread, had a vague remember an email of seeing one in the past.... When I saw that in the Brazilook thread I thought it was a Brazil specific model. Ive never seen one. Ever, And its as cool as it gets. Not many Vauxhalls I pine for in standard form, but that's rare enough for me to want it really really badly. Slam it, banded steels, decent tyres, roll. What are your plans, literaly anything is good.

One of my mates used to work at a Vauxhall dealer in West London back in the mid 80s, and I can remember him being incredulous that a guy had bought a 1.3 base 2 door Cavalier with 4 speed box.
Nothing would shift this guy from buying the basest of base spec that he could buy, despite the difference between a step up to a 1.6, or a 5 speed box being mere pennies a week on the repayments.
Can you imagine that these days where all the bells and whistles are expected?

What are your plans, literaly anything is good. Well, this, but a 'bit less' would be just right. Though when my brother in law was round coding the van to the new battery, he casually dropped in that he's a 'spare' 2.6 Vectra V6 unit...

As per previous, not really getting much time to attack this, but my son has got the bug so is pushing on with it. We've had a few issues so far, replaced ignition module which worked for a bit then stopped, problem was with the key barrel. That's currently removed / by-passed but my father-in-law found a complete lock & key set in the shed so going forward should not be an issue. My lad has also been all through the electrical system and has got everything working now (previously all dead). Several swaps of starter motor / bench-testing starters and he's got it to the point where it turns over freely. Yet to attempt a start from a jerry can but no reason now why it should not. As a bit of a mojo-boost we went on a little trip down to Bury Park Luton today to hoover up some Astra GTE champion rims. Need to put a new tyre on one afore they go on, that can happen in the week. Biggest frustration for me is that quotes to get the paint sorted are a long way north of what was in the original budget... dig deep or get the rollers out?
