Hi there my 1.9tdi caddy lost power so I put it in the local garage to find out what's wrong and they tell me that the turbo needs replaced and that the egr has been blanked, would this cause the turbo to stop working and should I renew the egr along with the turbo or just leave it as is, also I plan to do the timing belt water pump and tentioners. Is this a hard job and would I require and special tools for this. I have a Haynes manual which hopefully will keep me right, Thanks for any advise Simon

Egr blank shouldn't be a problem. Mine lost boost once, apparently the valve can get stuck open. Turning ignition off forced it to reset and then it was fine. I was told to run some turbo cleaner through it and it's not done it since. No idea if that's what's up with yours though.

As said above the EGR being blanked off is not a problem. The timing belt on these is not that hard if you take your time, but is not one for the first timer to take on. don't rely on the haynes manual for the timing belt either.
Where abouts are you? There may be someone local who can help you out.

Thanks for the information the garage has said that the turbo is not spinning up. Looks like I can get a new turbo under £200 I'm not sure how hard it is to replace as access is not good. Oh I live in the Scottish borders.
