This was my little Honda CRV. I had it exact the way I wanted, it was a great little car but I could not get comfortable behind the wheel, found the seats very small. An offer I could not refuse was quickly accepted and the car is now property of a lovely young couple A mate of me, a real estate agent, was listing a house. The owner told my mate that he was down sizing his fleet of 8 cars. He had some old Fords, BMW's and this Toyota Hiace It's a bus/van I always liked but they are silly expensive for what it is. This one went cheap and although technical good it is no princess. It's a bit of a pig. The rear lets the car down. I need to have a think how to make it look a bit better. I'll start with the bumper bar and take it from there. The interior was really dirty. I have already spend some time cleaning it. Everything is electric and almost everything works expect for the electric adjustable steering wheel. I am picking up some almost new secondhand tires on Mitsubishi wheels tomorrow. The tires on the car now are some square Chinese cheapies. TBC

Brilliant project and a 4x4 bonus! These things go on forever and are fun to drive after a few mods!

I got the electric adjusting of the steering wheel working again. It's run by an electric driven worm and wheel gear. For some reason the wheel was not able to be turned around by the worm. I cleaned replaced a washer and it's all good again.
Now I need to find out why the tailgate doesn't open. I hate these jobs. They are always fiddly.
I also thing that I need new CV joints. It's not making a noise in corners but when accelerating fast. As if something is just slipping over a spline or something like that. It does work on slow taking of and all is fine. So, or the front diff is cactus or the CV. I hope the CV as that's and easier job than replacing the front diff.
I also bought new (secondhand) tires and wheels. I don't mind the wheels on it but the tires are hopeless. I found a set of wheels and tires for less than 1 new tire...

I bought some other wheels with bigger tyres. This is the old set up This is with the new wheels. There is a bit of rubbing happening. I saw that I can wind up the torsionbars. So, a little lift might stop it from rubbing. This will mean that I need some longer coils or a spacer in the back.

The 4WD transfer case chain is slipping badly. I found a new one in Japan. Till I have that thing I will not drive it much. This will give me enough time to clean up and paint the towbar and rear bumper bar.

As you've found, if driven gently, it's not a problem until you can replace it. Earlier Range Rovers can have the same transfer chain issues, especially on those used hard in a past life.

Nice change.
I do like the side view.
How tall is your van?
Looking at it tucked in under your carport.

Nice change. I do like the side view. How tall is your van? Looking at it tucked in under your carport. Hi mate, The van is the same height as any other Hiace or it will be close anyway. My car port is not much more than a shade sail. I'll get some photo's of it tomorrow. I can raise or lower the sail with a small boat (hand) winch. I need to drop 1 corner of the shade sail to get the camper in the back yard. It looks like a did not wind it all up again. Cheers

More around my planning for my carport entry.
