Thought I would start a thread for my camper which we bought in 2018 from a guy in Portsmouth. The van is a 1989 transit popular which was originally a telecom van. It was converted into a camper by Sussex motor campers and is a 4 berth van with a kitchen, captains seats and pop top roof. I’ve always been a fan of the MK3 as these were new when I was a kid! Anyway we weren’t actually looking for a camper but when it came up on market place we contacted the seller and within in an hour we had made the 20 minute crossing from Ryde to Portsmouth to have a look. The guy selling it worked at music festivals and used it to get to various events. His girlfriend had decided to join him for the summer 2018 and so he needed a bigger van for the two of them to stay in. After a chat and a good look around the van we made him an offer and left a deposit, I went back over on the Tuesday evening after work to collect the van as I had to book the car ferry to get it home. We had a few camping trips over the summer and used it in the evenings to go out for bbqs and the beach which was great!
Unfortunately the van ran out of mot in may last year and we didn’t use it at alll so it sat on the drive doing nothing! I noticed it needed some welding doing on the drivers side so had a mate come over and do that which spurred on the enthusiasm to sort it out and use it again. A pair of banded steels were a must for the back as the axle is narrow on the MK3 and the standard steels sit tucked under the arches which looks a bit odd! I picked up the wheels on eBay with the tyres which had done next to no miles and the they have totally transformed the look of the van! Just need to get the fronts done but first it needs an mot which is booked for this Friday. Here’s a few pics from the weekend as the others are on my old phone which I will sort out later. Thanks Rob.
