Hi, this car is still in the workshop currently (engine just being plumbed and wired back in and then it will be straight off for an MOT), so I'm a bit ahead of myself advertising, but will be needing the space as soon as its finished.
I had intended on keeping this one for myself, they are making reasonable money, but as with all '80's Fords, the XR2's are one to hang onto as will be continuing to rise in price for the foreseeable future- and a great investment.
This particular example is a 3 owner only car, with 23.000 genuine miles on the clock! The car has been stored away for some considerable years, and after I purchased it early this year, I decided it was worthy of a full restoration.
I have had the car completely stripped to a bare shell. It has been on a rotisserie spit, and the underside was treated to a full Upol Raptor seal tinted to the same paint code as the car itself. This was then over-sprayed with a few coats of 2k Ford Diamond white after, whilst the inside and outside of the shell was done too. The vulnerable areas, i.e. the sills and lower valances were also Raptor sealed for future protection.
The shell itself doesnt look to have ever been welded- it way well have had some welding carried out in its past- but if it has its been done correctly to excellent standards. There are no obvious signs of repairs, and certainly no plating or patching anywhere!
Whilst the engine was out of the car, it was rebuilt and serviced fully. New gaskets fitted, new clutch, new timing belt and tensioner fitted. Brand new plugs, filters, oil, performance HT leads etc. The sump and block were painted whilst stripped.
The XR2 has a brand new full stainless exhaust just fitted, brand new refurbished Pepper pot alloys, with new tyres. Brand new Air Tech performance ali radiator, brand new Roose Motorsport silicone hose kits and clips fitted. It has new uprated performance vented disks all round. Fully rebuilt/ overhauled calipers. Brand new pads and brake hoses. New 35mm lowering springs all round, fully polybushed all round. New red uprated anti roll bar and new brackets, bolts and drop-links too. Theres more- but way too much to list!!
The interior is all original and in immaculate condition, never come across seats in such fantastic original condition before! Still has its original Ford rubber over matts too! Dash is as it should be with no cracks etc. Even has its original radio/ tape deck fitted and un-molestered.
The body kit was already in great condition, but this has been cleaned and treated with a proper plastics dye to retain its colour before it was fitted back on. New pressed number plates, new decals and red Ford badges set the XR2 off nicely.
The car has a few boxes of spares with it too. I decided to go the whole hog and replace perfectly good parts just for the sake of it!
I have the full v5 logbook here. I have tons of invoices and parts bills etc from the restoration. Photos showing the full resto. Original owners books and manuals included too.
Located in Hertfordshire. Delivery can be organised at cost. The car should be fully MOT'd and finished within the next 2 weeks.
Please excuse the pics but its all I have right now, I will update soon...
Thanks, Matt
