Hi Dan, Quality work as always, folk just don’t realise the time and effort needed to get such results. I am envious of your standard of work and attention to detail. Surely can’t be much left to do (tongue in cheek). I as always look forward to seeing the next instalment. All the best, Norman Hi Norman, great to hear from you 👍🏻 Thanks for your kind words. Yes, definitely a lot of time and effort spent on this one. Time and effort many say would have been better spent elsewhere....and at times I found myself agreeing with them. There's still a lot to do, but feeling very pleased that the majority of the bodywork is now done. Dan

Another (door) step in the right direction. It must be nice having a load of panels in stock and just having to fit them. Most excellent as ever.

Absolutely cracking work, as ever. I only sometimes don't reply as I'm running out of superlatives Really looking forward to seeing the continued progress on this. It's always the first of the bookmarked threads I go to when there's an update!

Another (door) step in the right direction. It must be nice having a load of panels in stock and just having to fit them. Most excellent as ever. 😁😁.....Yes....it was oddly satisfying to just fit everything up and weld it in without hours of walking backwards and forward to the garage fabricating panels. Short lived though.....as the this update shows some 'back pedalling' on previous work. Absolutely cracking work, as ever. I only sometimes don't reply as I'm running out of superlatives Really looking forward to seeing the continued progress on this. It's always the first of the bookmarked threads I go to when there's an update! Thanks Jim, appreciated as always. I don't mind if you use the same superlatives......it helps with my ego.....I meant enthusiasm!!!!.......yeah...that's right....I meant enthusiasm!!! 😅😅😅 As said, mostly just hit the like button but always enjoy an update Thanks John.....appreciated as always 👍 Awesome as always! Love reading about this, thanks again for taking the time to both entertain and amaze us! Thanks 👍....it can sometimes take ages to create an update. Finding and sorting the photos is the biggest headache for me. Then, knowing what to write is tricky, as I've got loads to say....but don't want to bore the backside off anyone 😅😅😅. Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying it all 👍 You do realise that VW will probably want this back when it's finished, It'll be better than anything they have !! Nigel Thanks Nigel.....I had to question myself a little while back, as all along, the intention has been to use the truck as a truck once finished. But I got all upset not so long ago when I took a small chip of paint out of the chassis while shifting the truck across. Using it for what it is intended for will probably see me crying at the end of every day I use it. Thing is....I will use it for what it is intended for.....but I will also look after it intently. I still look at your work in awe, I only hope I can achieve something like that standard of work. Mine is best viewed in the dark, looking forward to the next instalment. Norman Norman......you really shouldn't put yourself down mate.....there's absolutely nothing wrong with your work. I know you've had a bit of a break from the project, but the scale of what you've taken on is to be commended. Many would of given up a long time ago. While we're on the subject, I'm so pleased that you've started posting on your thread again.....really looking forward to seeing it all come together 👍

Okay.....here we go again!! Now....way back on pages 5/6 of this thread, saw me fabricating part of the drivers side arch and the lower rear corner of the drivers side cab. Don't get me wrong, I put a lot of effort in to it, but it was only to tidy the truck up and help it look presentable. So with that in mind.....what I did then wasn't up to the standards of what came after it......in my opinion. Also...as I mentioned somewhere in the earlier pages, the drivers side rear corner filled up with water from the inside, due to all the other rust problems that were above at the time. This was the main reason I stopped working on the step area and have now come full circle. Over the time that everything else had been going on with the truck, I couldn't help but notice that the panel lines were off on the on rear of the cab to front arch meeting point. Plus teamed with the fact I had purchased a new front arch repair panel that was of shocking quality!! The folds were no where near as 'sharp' as they are supposed to be in conjunction with original panel. Because of its shape, it would take a hell of a lot of work to get it to a standard that I was happy with. So my thoughts were, if I could successfully remove the original arch, in it's present state, it would be 10 times better than the new repair panel. Here's what I mean about the fitment of the panel.....something I didn't disclose when I originally did it....hopefully you can just about see the pen line where the panels should meet.... Mark where I wanted to cut the arch ........ Drill the stot welds out...... .....and remove it.... As you can see.....its not pretty in there. What made matters worse, was that the water got in before I had a chance to wax oil it. ....and once again, I thought I had photos of the adjustment to the arch panel....but I can't find them. The next pictures is of the arch with all adjustments done and the rear of it all tidied up. plus, the whole arch spent a week in the de-rusting solution..... Then on to the what lay behind it all. There was a small repair to the inner arch..... It was painful having to undo everything I'd already done......but necessary. Next I removed the inner panel that I'd only put in two...ish years ago........ That's all for today folks......more soon. Dan

Outstanding work as usual. I see you are using the hi end CAD, rather than the standard cornflakes configuration. That must be why end results are so good.

I know that re-doing stuff is a colossal pain in the backside but you wouldn't have been happy if you had left it and nor would all of your fans, we would have had to organise some kind of protest. Imagine a group of middle aged men who smell of WD40, or something much worse, gluing themselves Lloyd's doorstep.

I thought I was in for an easy ride....but no such luck! The dam things would probably of fitted better to a Vauxhall Astra than the Mk2.

Hmm, not had a garibaldi in years, what’s the address? You are going to be on the road well before me (that’s if it’s not finished already). Keep up the good work, Norman

Right.....more updates! To be honest, I'm not too far away from being up to date with this thread now. I reckon another 3....maybe 4 updates should have us where I am with the build now. I shall give you forewarning now.....I make a full appearance in this update. So anyone with a nervous disposition must log off now 😁. I blame my other half.....she insisted on some action shots....her words, not mine. To be fair, it's the only time she's ever uttered these words during our entire relationship, so I threw the camera at her and told her to carry on.....only to find out, that she was on about her taking photos of me working on Lloyd. Anyway, lets get on with it..... So, this update will be all about fabricating the rear wing and rebuilding the outer step. ......arch in place....... Then start to get the basic shape/folds into the metal..... While it was in this position, I drew a line from behind that shows where the rear of the arch panel tails off...... like so...... Fold it and see what it looks like up against the arch..... Then trim the lower material off and fold the return lip...... Then it was onto the stepped return curve........ Next, was to fabricate another panel with a Dutch fold in it as previously done on the left side of the truck. When I did the left side, I used the bead roller to achieve the fold. But I wasn't really happy with how it came out, and I remember having to mess around with it to get it straight again as it had a bend/curve in it from top to bottom. This time....I went back to basics....and it turned out a lot better a lot quicker...... Right teaboy .......time to dispel those rumours of handsomeness you keep spreading around...😁😁...... The first picture shows me measuring how far out the original rear corner sits out from the rear panel........ Then lining up the new panel into the same position...... with that done, it was time to weld it all up....... On to the outer step. This was a repair panel that is readily available. It needed extra bits added to front and rear of it..... Then weld the rear panel to the arch...... Another small inner arch repair.....please excuse the poor quality pictures...... Once all of that was dealt with, it was time to permanently weld the whole lot in. No during pictures I'm afraid.... only after pictures...... .......and that'll be that for this update. Thanks for looking in. Dan.
