Your thoughts please people
My VW T5 camper conversion (built not bought!) keeps blowing its coolant out of the expansion tank, mainly at motorway speeds
Its the good old 1.9 PD engine, with 140,000 on the clock
This started a couple of months ago on the way home from Scotland, the coolant light came on so i pulled over and found the engine bay covered in coolant.
I knew my thermostat was stuck as the van never got up to temperature so i sent it to my mechanic (Its in a horrible place on the T5)
He also found that the radiator was on its last legs and ready to burst so replaced this too.
I was hoping the over pressurization of the coolant was being caused by the stuck thermostat or potentially blocked radiator.
Took her for first spin on the motorway today, gets up to tempreature as normal now and sits at 90'C perfectly. Heater all works fine so seems to be nothing wrong with the matrix. However 20 mins at 70mph and its thrown out all its coolant again
My mechanic had pre warned me he felt there's a good chance that my headgasket is gone, it passed sniff test but he thinks the head is moving under boost and pressurizing the system
Before i get the headgasket done, is there anything else i could be missing?
Ive ordered a new expansion tank and cap today to discount that and some of the smaller pipe work.
We are looking to drive to family in southern Spain as soon as we are allowed so cooling system needs to be good
