ive got a really big want for one of these, good find. Clio 172/182 engine should drop straight in for some extra poke and the 197 lump with some modifications #justsaying props on the a menu too lol I used to have a 182 and they’re great cars, handle like a go kart and are quick. Expensive to fix given the complicated cam belt and dephasers, garages love to mess them up and charge £600 for the privilege. I won’t swap the engine in mine, Volvo reliability, if I were to do an engine swap it would be out of a Volvo S40 T4, same engine with a turbo. Love the Laguna, comfy and handles really well, rare these days as they’ve all been scrapped.

A brace of Fiesta STs (the 150bhp models non turbo) were tailing me the other day weaving behind me, would've been interesting but they turned off - obviously didn't fancy their chances! I have one of the STs (not the ones tailing you!) and there's no chance you'd shake one - another one of those cars that will stick to twisties like glue! I bet the Laguna compares favourably with newer cars of similar size for sure though, 90s and 2000s cars are in that sweet spot between weight/safety/equipment if you ask me - the French are also pretty good at making cars go round corners as you will know. I wouldn’t shake one but you wouldn’t get passed me either, I carry the speed through the corners 🤙 New fiestas are probably bigger than my Laguna! Yours is smaller, those ST150 Fiestas are true hot hatches. Nice cars, a neighbour has a couple of them and the engines are reliable. Fancy a race down Santa Pod when it’s open? - not for logbooks just for fun 😜

Unfortunately mine isn't standard, and it's got an oil consumption issue currently (fingers crossed it's the split PCV hose causing it) - I would offer my other Fiesta against it but that's turbo'd so not a fair comparison! To be fair, Santa Pod isn't really what either of these cars are about - I'd grab an Audi/VW/Seat thing with DSG and a turbo if I wanted to go fast in straight lines! New Fiestas don't float my boat at all, MK7 is okay but MK8 is a disappointment to me.

Hopefully you get the mechanical issue sorted. They’re not 1/4 drag cars but it’d be interesting to see the difference, I think the Fiesta would pip me!
Out of all the various Fiestas yours is my favourite, good amount of power and a great chassis. What bhp has your turbo got?
My first car was a mk3 Fiesta 1.1, I wanted to make it look like the RS Turbo but went through a car wash and it chewed a rusty wheel arch! I was naive at 17 😂.
Next year I’m off to Nurburgring in the Laguna, my bro is taking his bike. That’ll be fun!

My ST is currently at 165bhp (Mountune MP165) and I think that's the sweet spot for it as a daily - enough to get past slow moving vehicles but slow enough that you can use more than two gears! The turbo'd one is 235bhp or so currently - it's got the 1.6 turbo from the MK7. You'll love Germany, I went past the Ring on my way to the Black Forest and all the driving roads around there are awesome!

Ive never seen one, have you got a pic? Every Renault laguna ive seen has the Renault F series engine. Yeah id never pay a garage to do one. After having 10+ clio 172s and 182s I'm pretty ok at doing the belts. Easy with the tools and the know how. Had all manner of them too, supercharged, turbo charged, Jenveys cams and standalone management plus totally stock clean and maintained items. Think ive had one of every version too. Ph1 172s, ph2 172, 172 cup, silver 172 cup with AC, 182 and a 182 trophy.

Mine is only 1 of 3 on the road so no wonder you haven’t seen any with this engine. It’s badged up as Executive, one above the 2.0s. Post November 98 Lagunas used the Renault F engines, mine is registered Nov 98. Impressive list of Clio Sports! Cracking cars, Trophy spec is very desirable. Mine was a standard 182 cup pack with remap to smooth out the flat spot, took it to a garage for servicing and they flashed it to standard 😂. Didn’t make too much difference but was a little lumpier on tick over. Ever fancied a V6?

It is a bit of a handful with it only being on 195-section tyres! Power comes on less linearly that you'd expect from a small, modern turbo as well. Avoid the French and Belgian cities and you'll be fine on the continent, I found them tiresome but Germany was perfect for driving around.

I had an Etruscan Red one of the (well, it was the 2.0 RXE) on an 'R' reg a good 14 years ago now perhaps. Got it very cheap but the passenger footwell was a good 5 inches deep in rubbish, cigarette ashes and other muck. Cleaned up very nicely, but it would never idle right.
The talking voice got on my nerves one day about "fuel level low" because it was a bit thirsty, so I muted it out of stress. About a mile away from the house I thought "I'll turn it back on now" and it immediately said:
"Fuel Level - low"
"Passenger Rear Door - open"
Ah the perils of muting! Luckily no harm came on the matter, but I don't recall there being any other visual clues!

I’m guessing the “fuel level low” happens when the fuel light comes on? They’re almost non existent on our roads now, so I’m keeping this one as long as I can. Drives nice has plenty of power and is a comfortable cruiser. There’s a red 1.8 16v on eBay now for £375. I paid £140 for mine!

Key fobs need a battery Few quid off eBay, I replaced mine myself with a brand new key for £6. Water pumps are cheap too, but good things to haggle over for you. Let me know if you buy it.

The display on mine used to read 4mpg (!) but I can't recall if it was that bad on fuel or just goosed in other ways. It was a fair while ago! £140 is mental. Why so cheap?

I’ll get these fixed in time, mechanically it’s mint, engine and box are very smooth.
