Picked up a 1998 phase 1 Renault Laguna 2.0 16v. First owner was a director hence the high specification trim level, electric windows all round, CD changer in boot, full leathers, KITT style voice alert system, electric sunroof and air con. Out of all these electrics only the radio doesn't work due to being code locked. Have ordered a factory Renault CD head unit with code to be fitted this week. Mechanically the car has always been looked after and wanted for nothing, stacks of service history and the 2 hr ride home proved just that. Tested at 80-90mph allegedly on a very hot day, temp gauge didn't move and it was quicker than I expected for 140bhp. Very responsive gear change and acceleration, it likes to be driven properly and not grandaded. Exhaust is hanging off but that is because a previous mechanic fitted the middle and rear sections using 1.8 8v parts that are completely different to the 2.0 16v. The guy I bought the car from used to work for Renault in the 90s which is why he purchased the car 10 years ago. Needless to say he was absolutely gutted to see it go but I assured him that one day it will feature in a retro car magazine of some sort - I have a vision for this long term. Exhaust is required immediately so correct standard parts will be fitted. Full service including all belts and all fluids. MOT was due beginning of June but due to coronavirus it is now December. Rear tyres need replacing, tread is legal but sidewalls are perishing. The fronts are good but are part worn fitted last year and I'd rather for my own peace of mind have brand new rubber on. Any other mechanicals that need addressing once my mechanic inspects it. Long term vision is to have a full stainless manifold to rear exhaust, gold Oz racing alloys to give it the Williams Clio look or indeed a Renault 19 16v or Clio 16v. Repair and replace as things perish. I love Lagunas, my Dad had a 1.8 estate back in the day and I liked the look of it, more so than his Mondeo or Xantia. He also had a Renault 21 2.1td which whistled and went like stink, very cool car. Here's some initial pictures and I will keep updating this thread as and when things are done to the car, for my personal records as well as sharing it with the RR fraternity.

Dude, need pictures! These are fabulous things! My mate's dad had a V6 when they were current cars and it was properly quick!
Looking forward to progress!

Thanks! There is one Laguna Monaco 3.0 v6 for sale on autotrader at £2995 - very nice motor indeed, and super wafty long distance cruisers. Go on Marc, Laguna v6 is surely an essential buy during a pandemic!

Tyres fitted, much better ride. Wheel bearing noise now detected so that’s next on the list. Awaiting final exhaust part to be delivered before sending Lenny for a full service and belt change.
The radiator has been replaced at some point, looks brand new.
On changing the spark plugs number 4 was a tad oily, seals ordered.
The KITT voice really works, a brake light bulb failed whilst driving and it told me straight away. Who said French electrics were curse word 😆

Love a bit of French. Some Gtechniq C4 would bring those bumper plastics up a treat, took about 10 years off my rangey and lasts much longer than any other brand.

Cosmetics are my final to do list, the passenger wing and door have been in the wars. I’m going to buy another Laguna as a breaker and then get round to the bumper plastics. I used to use back to black but it’s cheap and doesn’t last long. Will get some Gtechniq C4. Nice one

K & N panel filter arriving today, £26 from Eurocarparts, bargain.
Bit of a delay with the exhaust back box, Car Parts For Less couldn’t get one after 2 weeks but refunded more than I paid! I used a discount code but they refunded full price.
For now I’ve bought a cheap one £36 off eBay, hard to source now. In future I will be putting a stainless on. For anyone interested a place in Walsall quoted me £145 for custom back box fitting and bumper modification. All in, which is cheaper than power flow by miles.
Had to seal up the sunroof due to leaks, quick fix I know but it’s done the job! Will be fixed properly further down the line. Pictures to follow.

I used weather proof clear sealant. My first car a mark 3 Fiesta had a leaky sunroof, turning a corner I used to get soaked 😂

K and N panel filter arrived yesterday but it’s the wrong part. It’s for a 2.0 8v, I’ve reordered the correct part from EBay, same as a Volvo S40 2.0 16v and the wrong filter is on its way back to Euro Car Parts.
Awaiting the exhaust back box - when that comes it will go to habe the following work done:
1. Exhaust middle and rear fitted 2. Full service 3. Seals replaced, spark plug 4. Cam belt 5. Water pump 6. Wheel bearings
Will update with pictures.

All 30kg of middle and rear exhaust, lovely design. The middle section is the same for a 3.0 V6 with a silencer to nowhere, a Laguna Monaco would have another pipe coming out here. The incorrect K & N panel filter, the one pictured is for a 2.0 8v or indeed a 1.8 8v. The correct Volvo engine filter should arrive any time soon. Garage doing a quote for all the works needed. Will update with the results.

Headlights changed as the old ones had badly corroded from salt, very dull and I always got flashed by other drivers! Genuine Renault units in excellent condition ordered from Norfolk Salvage £32.50 delivered for the pair, bargain. Was straight forward to do and the KITT talking voice told me which bulbs weren't working - love this feature.

Correct K n N panel filter is now in, lovely Volvo roar and Lenny pulls very well indeed. Can't be far off 150bhp. Sorting the exhaust will help even more. Love this car, handles well and really likes to be driven up and down the box. Surprises many cars that tailgate me due to it's age, I drop the cog and leave them for dust. A brace of Fiesta STs (the 150bhp models non turbo) were tailing me the other day weaving behind me, would've been interesting but they turned off - obviously didn't fancy their chances!

Quick update, the Laguna has been at a garage in Shrewsbury since Thursday. Not got round to it yet due to being a mechanic short and swamped with work. I’m in no rush and French Cars in Shrewsbury are amongst the best when it comes to service.
Will update when I have it back. Feel naked without it! 🤣

I have one of the STs (not the ones tailing you!) and there's no chance you'd shake one - another one of those cars that will stick to twisties like glue! I bet the Laguna compares favourably with newer cars of similar size for sure though, 90s and 2000s cars are in that sweet spot between weight/safety/equipment if you ask me - the French are also pretty good at making cars go round corners as you will know.
