The worst thing is they arnt even polite, its just a message "150" to what my reply is "450" then it gets them kicking off as it was advertised for 300 lol .. it did sell though in 12 hours to a lovely guy but still. you got to have dead pan humor or be incredibly rude ? My brother was selling his e46 a few years ago - I think that one of the websites actually encourages you to make an offer by entering a number, and then sends the message as if the person buying had just typed the number as a message. He had quite a lot of offers like that Is that Gumtree? It wouldn't surprise me, both the website and the app are utterly hateful in design and implementation. The website seems to have been designed by developers who were briefed to actively try to enrage potential users. More often than not it causes Chrome to hang and/or crash. The app is equally appalling. Whilst I was using it, or trying to, it frequently crashed whilst browsing, resetting all my searches and crashing the Google Now Launcher. By process of elimination, it also turned out to be the sole cause of my relatively decent Android mobile running slower than a Pentium I. Needless to say, it was binned from my phone. I can't find a Gumtree related car, so have a Gumball Rally one instead. Penance, etc.

I kid you not i had a £300 e46 touring for sale the other week once we finished using it as a tip wagen, on the road mot'd . i got stupid bookfart dingbats offering half my asking price... they actually had the cheek to message. The worst thing is they arnt even polite, its just a message "150" to what my reply is "450" then it gets them kicking off as it was advertised for 300 lol .. it did sell though in 12 hours to a lovely guy but still. you got to have dead pan humor or be incredibly rude ? I had some stuff on Marketplace a while ago, very cheap, and a woman offered me £30 for a £45 item, so I also replied £60 or something which had her and another one kick off about it not being fair, then a third guy came in and offered my £75 because he got the joke. Sold it all for asking price in the end, as items were like new and listed at about 20-24% of replacement cost. The rude ones really irk me, years ago I had 3 or 4 working DVD player to give away on Freecycle, one guy also came in with I want them all. I just replied with something like “No, you don’t” got a rude reply too. They went to various homes.

I think the opposite is true of car prices. I don't need anything but I still look, as you do, and prices seem higher if anything. With regards to lowballs when selling online, it's been like that for years. That's why I always ask for more and never give a contact number, makes screening out wasters much easier.

It's hard to see if a crash is coming.
If you look at CCA, alot of collectors are selling up their stock while the market is high. But there still seem to be buyers.
If there is a crash, I don't think it will be a huge one, as there are still buyers out there, and with many now stepping away from PCP deals due to a financial reflection, or being out work, so then either being lucky enough to live on savings, or getting any job to get by, the secondhand car market doesn't seem too bad.
After all, it's not a monthly commitment people have to make, and it is seen as money in the bank.
It's hard to know what will happen.
Prices are definitely firm. I think the B word will affect things however. Our European cousins always have paid around 5 times more in a number of cases for secondhand cars. With more red tape and taxes coming that way, you can bet that will affect our market.

I think that could send it one of two ways........ 1) prices will fall as less Eastern Europeans come over and trailer back the big family saloons (There are so many every night leaving via Dover/Shuttle, Police are picking them off every so often absolutely overloaded to the extreme on the big van then towing 2 ton of trailer and car......gross train weights are through the roof!!!) 3 2) Prices will climb as demand people keep their cars longer supply becomes less It seems to me several months ago you could pick up all number of things for sub £500 but the availability of such things has dried right up like a new scrappage scheme has been implemented or something, really surprising but it keeps me out of trouble i guess Incidentally ChasR I just got a Bluefin for my Mondeo 2.5t Estate........ will report back what difference it makes (cost me £40 off eBay lol but comes will original bill of sale etc)

The UK owner doesn't really do keeping a car for a while. It's partially one reason why they end up neglected. Yes, I know it's a stereotype to assume that short lived owners don't take care of cars, and it's not always true. There is logic to it however. Why spend cash on something when you're not going to keep it?
That and our climate kills cars. My M3 is now rustier than what my unwelded '72 Merc W108 was, and also my JDM '76 Carina Coupe. I think that's one reason why UK owners don't tend to keep cars as much. Bodywork does scare people and for us, it's either a cost you accept to take on or not. It's damn expensive is the issue and for anything daily run, inevitable.
I'll be honest, it's probably the reason I got rid of a few cars in the past, despite me welding them correctly too. But we do love to salt our roads unlike other countries like Japan and Germany. No wonder we love buying new cars.
P.S Let me know what it is like on the Mondeo. I'm in two minds about doing mine. MPG is one as is the power delivery. I'll be waiting for the response.

Have to agree, there are bloody loads of pretty rubbish cars are stupid prices.
