I want to make an effort this year to learn by doing on the MG so I thought I'd put a thread together to track the stages but I thought I'd start with the back story first.
I bought the car when I was 19 in 2003 as a project. I paid £1800 for it and this is what I got...
It actually came with an MOT
Back at home...
The story behind it was that the previous owner had left it connected to a trickle charger overnight with the unit on the passenger seat which overheated and caused an interior fire. The guy I bought it from had intended to restore it but bought a V8 project instead. He fitted chrome wings instead of rubber bumper ones.
Starting to tidy it out
Prepping for new carpets
In hindsight, not in the best order it then went for paint and dusted up the new carpets.
April 2004 I did a London to Brighton run
2005 on the way back from a uni ball the alternator decided to ignite. Duly panicked, flagged down traffic for some water, called the fire brigade who came and soaked the engine bay
After getting fixed this is pretty much how it sat for years with only a few changes - the roof had a massive hole in but some tape and fine weather only driving kept it in service for a while. Also replaced the second hand twisted chrome bumpers for new ones. The Rostyles got changed to wire wheels with some old second hand wheels that I had powder coated silver
In the last coupe of years all the wheels were replaced with new ones from MWS and new chrome spinners and I got some new plates last year. This is how it sits now...
I've always been worried about doing work myself on it as I don't have the experience / don't want to make something worse than it was but I guess that won't improve by not doing anything!
