Tell me about the lowered spring plates. Do you use those instead of adjusting the torsion bar or as well as? You can fit them exactly as the originals are and that’ll give you a 2” drop. I’m going to fit these 1 outer spline up as well. See where she sits like that. The beauty of a drop plate is it gives the initial 2” drop without messing up shock travel and toe in etc.

I seem to remember that if you really slam the back of a bug, the lower you get, the more toe in you get too as you run out of adjustment. Mind you, I stay largely stock height at the back on a bug, although my Ghia was five splines down when I got it...

Looking forward to seeing how this comes out!

Thank you brother! Few days to get the rear wheels on, renew the steering damper, and fix the fuel tank leak... she’ll be all good. Small issues in the grand scheme of the turmoil she went through today. Poor old girl, unmolested for over 50 years, then I come along...

Might be worth spacing the tank up by 20mm or so - a mate of mine wore through the bottom of his tank with the long track rod...

The fuel exit pipe was leaking like a sieve, so waiting on bits to fix that.

Have you considered an anti bump steer kit to flip the tie rods? Restores the angle to closer to stock, especially important on a lowered and narrowed beam. I had a set on my race bug, not hard to fit if you can get a 17mm drill bit.

Never fitted them on any of my other slammed aircooleds. Worth a look tho. 👍🏼

Finally get her home yesterday, but too busy cleaning other people’s cars to clean her! I raised the tank 30mm, as indeed the track rods fouled it.

That's looking ace. I've just ordered a pair of 6" steels for the rear of mine. Might have to copy your tyre size. What width wheels have you got up front?
