Hey chaps
Just finished making a video about my most recent purchase. Its a £480 VW Golf SDI and its possibly the slowest thing I've ever driven. I'm doing some maintenance work to it next week and trying out running it on used engine oil. If you any of you guys are interested in bangernomics then let me know and I'll keep the thread updated.

The memory re-set on the stereo is because for some reason VW swapped the position of switched and permanent live on the iso connector, a well known VW thing when fitting after market head units. For cold start do what we had to in the olden days , add a 1/2 gallon of petrol to a tankful of 'diesel' stops it gelling up.
Loving the cheapskate mingebaggery of this, I shall follow with interest.

Yeah a buddy who plays with Fords told me something similar with the head unit in his sierra. I didn't know if that was the case with the Golf but I guess it is now. The head unit still needs to go though because it likes to jump around the audio output between the two front speakers when the radio is on and I may have accidentally crushed one side of it with my tall person knees.
It starts fine now since the weather is warmer. I'm probably going to start mixing a little diesel in some winter but for now shes happy on SVO alone although she is getting a tank of diesel soon since the prices at the pump have dropped and costco is outside my 'essential journy' range.

Golf update I answered all the questions from readers/views and did some maintenance. Bought the cheapest 20l drum of 5w30 oil I could find on ebay so I'm doing a long term test on that. Here is the link for those interested.

Halfords do the oil filter cap tool very cheaply, didn't realise they did the SDI with a vp37 pump that late!

Halfords do the oil filter cap tool very cheaply, I'm a belt man now. Those greedy corporations and their oil filter removal tools no longer have their claws around my neck

I decided to move on and get a new car. This is the last update on Project Golf and the first of the new project car.
