A first look at a 2003 salvage rebuild Range Rover Vogue 4.4 litre V8 petrol and LPG powered project car that we have just purchased. We paid £1,550 for the car plus the transport delivery cost.
The BMW V8 engine it has starts first time every time and purrs with no rattles or squeaks whatsoever. The auto gearbox and 4x4 axles/systems all seem to be fine too. There are no warning lights at all on the dashboard.
The biggest issue we have seen so far is damage to the roof, a horse ran into the car and ended up on the roof ! Please do take a look at the video below, we would love to hear your thoughts on how you would tackle this repair. We are video recording our progress with the rebuild of the car, so stick around with us and take a look at the other videos in the series.
If you love looking at Copart auction salvage videos on the subject of how to rebuild salvage cars, and that sort of thing, then please do subscribe and leave us a comment, we would love to hear your thoughts about what we are doing.

Part 2 of our salvage Range Rover series.
We take another look around our 2003 salvage rebuild Range Rover Vogue 4.4 litre V8 project car. We paid £1,550 for the car plus the transport delivery cost.
In the video we take a look at the car's interior. The car has LPG and we take a quick look at the small control panel for its operation. The car has a TV in it, but we think it is still fitted with the old analogue system. We are told we can buy a BMW module from eBay to update this.

The RR L322 roof skin is a straight forward bolt on panel - I would have thought that its easier to replace it rather than mess about trying to straighten the one you have up which will never look right regardless of how much time you spend playing about with it - (believe me I have been restoring & straightening motors for over 4 decades) Used skins are readily available i.e. www.ebay.co.uk/i/302549855142?chn=ps

Hi thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the roof panel advertised on eBay is not for an L322 model, it is for a Classic. The L322 roof panel does not unbolt, unlike the Classic which does. In fact, if you look at the title of the eBay listing which reads, "Range Rover Lse 4.2 All Parts Classic L322 Roof" the seller mentions both models of the car - it cannot of course be both. Thanks anyway, you did get be thinking for a split second

Oh that’s sad. What a cruel sense of irony if it comes back as glue used for something down the line.
Do you guys have pictures of the damage and interesting bits from so far you can upload? I know a lot of people love to pour over them and see what’s going in more detail. Especially as you get a really good sense of the before, during and after of a big repair

Here are some photographs of the damage, seen at the time the car was delivered to us. I will take photograph of the damage to the roof today particularly above the windscreen which will be the hardest part to repair, as I don't have a good one to show to you and some is currently covered over. Windscreen imgur.com/a/2w8dWvnBonnet imgur.com/a/vvGGL2PBumper. We think this must have been damaged after the horse ran into it, as the horse ran into the nearside. imgur.com/a/9DEzdSaHorseshoe caught the doors as it fell off the roof imgur.com/a/0zN20pIHorse caught the bumper on the nearside. imgur.com/a/IhOvDoe

In this video we take a look at removing the Range Rover headliner or headlining as we call it in the UK.

As the owner of an L322 2002 4.4 , I have to be brutally honest and say that isn't worth saving or spending any money on. I would be amazed if the roof was a bolt on panel, guessing that's only for RRs on a ladder chassis though. If the gearbox is perfect or been replaced, find a 4.4 on eBay that's advertised with a dead gearbox and use yours as a parts car and breaker. Such a car will be worth about 1k. Cars showing rust on the rear arches will already have problems with rust on the sill, very possibly structural/MOT failure, although it's hard to see without removing the full length plastic sill cover. 4.4s with noise coming from the timing chain area may have suspect tensioners. Another high labour job that makes a lot of cars an uneconomical repair.

Another high labour job that makes a lot of cars an uneconomical repair. It has been worth spending on so far. We put a bonnet and wing on, which were off a car in the same colour. The replacement bumper was in great condition, but we need to have it painted. Most for sale needed painting anyway, so the colour didn't matter. The biggest job will be the roof panel, but we know where we can buy a replacement at the right price. The windscreen will be just under £200 fitted. The engine is very quiet, with no rattles, and having driven the car it goes through the gears nicely. New brakes were fitted all round before we bought the car. So far, we are very happy with what we bought.

We spent about half an hour removing the damaged front bumper on the L322 Range Rover, and also removed the headlamps and direction indicators. We bought a pair of brand new front direction indicator / side lamps from eBay for £67 each.

The previous owner of the Range Rover found and contacted me on YouTube last night. He was the owner before the damaged car was taken away by the insurance company. He sent me some photographs of the car, taken when he owned it. He has told me that he has some servicing documentation for it too.
