I still have a very strong memory of being flipped over in one like the picture below. It was on a school trip.

Seems like a Van more used to being slammed or modded than used as a workhorse. Was it just not as popular as say the Mk3. When i was a kid Mk3 Transits were used for everything, i guessed the Mk2 would be the same. Pretty much want to create something like this. Starting to want an old Van in real life now haha.

Did many, many thousands of miles in one of these. Started work for a small transport company, so they gave their oldest vehicle to the newest driver. It had a huge tilt on it that, even with a roof spoiler, severely limited top speed, especially when you were overloaded close to maximum weight. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) "Where's George?" "Oh, he's the guy on the M6 trying to get up enough speed up to draught a passing HGV!" Four speed with overdrive on three and four, just went on and on, and I got to prefer it to the later box van Mk3's the other drivers had. You had to wring its neck to get the best out of it. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Masochism personified!

It's a County 4x4, I had one until a couple of years ago. It should have a County badge on the rear door but seems to be missing. Better than an earlier Land Rover to drive on the road and surprisingly useful off road as well.

At my first job (supermarket, early '80s) the boss had a Mk2 Transit. It was thrashed by everybody, frequently grossly overloaded, and it just wouldn't die.

austinpowers yup we had school teachers like that, didn’t actually turn our minibuses over, but I have memories of ‘oh look at that lamppost, oh we’ve hit it!’ Amongst other things When they brought in minibus licensing I thought thanks for that!

I'm a big fan of the mk2 transit, I remember them being old workhorse and everywhere on the estate when I was a kid (I grew up in Romford), also my little sister was obsessed with the 101 dalmations, the best bit of the live action film was jasper and Horace driving a mk2 transit!
Would really like one, but they have allvanished.

Although far from being a Ford fan, i've always thought the Mk2 Tranny was the best looking (although the latest is good looking too). With its boxy square headlights and flared arches i always thought it looked ready to be quick. Plus, as a kid i always loved seeing the supervan at the leyland museum.
