There's the "Every toolbox/shed/workshop should have one" by strikey and "The workbench thread" by Dez and it made me think that there should be a separate thread for one of the most useful workshop implements of all time; your hot beverage stirrer. Mine is definitely old-skool as I come from the generation that ate its lunch with hands covered in grease/cutting oil/soluble. Cleaning it will only reduce the taste complexity of the finished drink. So will my workshop spoon or COVID-19 get me first

I can’t believe you’ve posted this today as I gave my rather similar but rather more tea stained workshop spoon it’s yearly (wether it needs it or not) clean on the wire wheel earlier. I’m sure Rich has a story about workshop spoons he told me as well. I think your may be on to something about eating with dirty hands strengthening the immune system though, it’s basically inoculation.

I used to work with a guy who ate muller corners with his fingers, often covered in brake dust and other workshop soiling. Standard workshop tea stirring item for me was usually a pen, cable tie or at a push a screwdriver.. I don’t like the spoons in our office as they are usually soaking in a mug of water that smells like someone pooped wet cabbage, or they are stuck together in a 5-spoon-pile.

It may not have been you then rich but I thought it was. It was about someone new to said workshop being aghast at the colour of said spoon so they cleaned it before using, only to find out it was actually two very thin spoons stuck together with tea grime.

I don't have a spoon as I'd rather drink the water from Rich's workshop spoon cup than any hot drink.

My spoon more closely resembles a bottle opener..
So.. a spanner. Or any other flat edged tool.

That may have been Zoe when we first met, probably when we were at our old workshop and we used to feed the office nice biscuits.

Hannah and I normally have coffee from our ever so posh espresso machine - given to us broken after the first one died, of which that first one we had rescued from a skip and its pump went on to fixing the one given to us...if that makes sense. So there is an old spoon that sits next to the machine to scoop out the puck etc.... Next to a local spider we found for scale...

Better workshop spoons than workshop toilets..... Seen some rough ones....
As a black tea drinker I can get by without a spoon, just fish the bag out with your (grubby?) fingers.

'Ere, your spider seems to have suffered an industrial injury - bit of one leg missing.......

For anyone who's interested, this is the other spoon, I'm sure theres another one in the garage covered in paint. Its probably sitting next to the paint stirring stick that's covered in coffee. That spoon must be 40 years old. Can you imagine what this thread is going to be like if everyone ends up in forced isolation?
