Building roof chopped, screen raked '68 Mini with G13B 1.3 16v Gti engine with LSD, Yamaha R1 carbs. As well as mk1 Suzuki Swift Gti AWD with a turbo. Drives PHEV Outlander but wishing my mk1 Swift Gti or mk2 CRX Vt were still with me!

Hi, I'm busy making a new gearbox setup for this conversion. First, I got hold of Gti close ratio gearbox but it is 4.1:1 final drive ratio. This ratio will make 1st gear useless. So, I got hold of 3.78:1 final ratio and crwon wheel. It will be nice to rebuild gearbox with clean casing so I asked Green&White to send it to vapour blast it for me. IMG_1015Then I get Gti gearset to go on 3.78:1 counter shaft. IMG_1109I have changed few oil seals for good measure!

Drivetrain conversion certainly sounds & looks interesting, though waiting to see how much work the body is going to need beforehand (& whether it really has a boot?).

I haven't updated this post so here goes. It has been a while but due to my car is 240 miles away, my progress will be slow. Also, Covid-19 lock down will delayed my progress. So during lock down, I have started to assemble my hybrid gearbox with GTi close ratio but with G13A longer final diff ratio. 2AC0769C-63DB-4441-904B-73D7FE109415Then when I was chatting to my Ameriacn friend, he tells me he has the ratio I wanted.... 3.528:1. So I bought it and waited it to arrive and start again. This time I have replaced all bearings so it is like a new gearbox. Then I dug out my Swift AWD slave cylinder with correct arm. Then I misplaced it by putting somewhere so safe, I have to buy another and make actual arm. Not expensive and they are readliy available. IMG_2908Using a cable operated arm and measure. IMG_2910Sometime TIG welding later. C2558E15-5677-4173-BFC3-71B7772F0C16Sent these photos to my old friend and he tells me he has them in his box of spares! Oh well, once I can drive down to South office. I will continue with body restorations. Cheers Atchi
