For sale my VW Caddy Mk1 1.6 1990
The truck is in fantastic shape for a commercial vehicle of this age and must have had an easy life to stay in this condition. The truck has had virtually no welding done to it during its life so there are no bodged repairs or nasty surprises hidden under fresh paint or flat/wooden/rubber rear bed. There are some very minor bits of rust showing but nothing substantial - what you see on inspection is what you get - and can be easily repaired to make the truck perfect as an everyday vehicle that would hold its own at any car show. Alternatively, being so solid, it would make the ideal starting point for a top show truck. The truck never fails to draw a crowd wherever it is parked.
Originally a 1.6 diesel with five speed box, I have recently replaced the engine with a 1.6 petrol, this was due to the head gasket failing on the diesel unit. Included with the sale is a spare 1.8 GTI engine and a second 5 speed gearbox and drive shafts. The 1.6 petrol engine runs well and is much more pleasant to drive than the underpowered 1.6 diesel was. In my opinion a 1.8 GTI conversion would be ideal for everyday use and was planned for this Summer.
When the engine was changed I fitted a full new clutch, cam belt, ignition module, Webber carburettor, K&N panel filter, ht leads, dizzy cap, spark plugs, engine mounts and more. A new, full standard exhaust was fitted at this time also.
In the last few weeks I have fitted two new rear tyres and rear brake shoes and replaced the front strut inserts (shocks) and front top mounts with Billstien units and inspected CV joints and gators, one of which was replaced.
I purchased the Caddy just over a year ago as it is a vehicle that has always been on my bucket list and I wanted a pick-up that could, on accession, transport a motorcycle. I am only selling as my situation has recently changed and I now need a more powerful and heavier pick-up that can tow a large six wheel covered trailer.
141,981 miles but the truck is being used so mileage might increase slightly.
Mot until Sept 2019 Needed some small repairs to the drivers side floor to pass (1st structral welding to the car as far as I know) and had a couple of advisories for Nearside and off side Rear Outer Suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive sill.
The bull bars, rear window grill side rails and rear bumpers are part of a very rare VW factory surf kit. I also have the rear hoop (see last pic) these are in rust free condition but have been touched up over the years by brush so would benefit from stripping and re painting or powder coating
I am located in Ickenham near Uxbridge in Middlesex (UB10 postcode) 10 mins from the M25 A40 junction and I encourage inspection prior to purchase. \
I can be contacted on 07778 766881
Cash or BACS transfer only. Happy to take you for a drive but no test pilots without proof of insurance.
