I always liked big comfortable cars and I have always liked big FAST comfortable cars. I really liked the idea of a big family hack that could shift a bit, always a manual gearbox, maybe a bit understated but a good quick cross country car, whether that was motorway or B roads. So.… Ford Granada 2.8i Sport Not shatteringly fast but built for speed, comfort and carrying a family to Tescos. Vauxhall Ventora FD If there is a better looking, run of the mill, 60s British family saloon out there, I haven't seen it. Front heavy but over 120BHP and, with a manual gearbox, it could move pretty well. Any others out there? Discount the US muscle, stick to Euro/Japanese etc. Give me some ideas, a large family saloon, manual box, that was quick in its day, could/can be driven enthusiastically and will still do the business in todays traffic!

The point is that, in their own eras, they were big, fast, comfortable cars BUT you had to work to get the best out of them. That was the fun part, most big moderns are massively capable which kills the fun a bit.

The point is that, in their own eras, they were big, fast, comfortable cars BUT you had to work to get the best out of them. That was the fun part, most big moderns are massively capable which kills the fun a bit. I’m well aware of that as well, I was just playing devil’s advocate

So.… Ford Granada 2.8i Sport My dad had one of them in white , then an estate version in silver iirc... he booted it everywhere with me mostly out of the sunroof ..happy days

The theme of this post, poses a very interesting question. The first thing that I would question is how many contributors on this site have actual experience of riding and even more, actually driving cars of the 50's and 60's?
Cars of that era had to be driven to get the best out of them, unlike modern day vehicles, which any Tom, Dick, and Harry can get behind the wheel and let rip. Advances in the automobile world have made such massive advances that comparisons with vehicles of the 50's, 60's, and 70's are light years behind.
As a professional driver of the 60's, one could sense what the car was doing, the same as early pilots flew by the seat of their pants. The feel of the vehicle, the sound, and intuition allowed one to coax these leviathans to do what the designers never actually intended them to do.
Good fun and to say the least exhilarating.
It won't be long before it's time for hot chocolate and bed-time. Night, Night everyone.

I’ll revert to cars my Dad had that I recall - Rover P5/P5B/P6B and a left field choice - the velour-clad Vauxhall Royale.
