Its funny, in the late 90's I was driving cars 20-odd years old, the whole family was, and compared to everything else on the street it really stuck out. Now you've got a driveway of cars 20-odd years old it doesn't seem to stick out quite so much. Its noticeable, but its probably not going to get you pointed at. Mind you, ours probably got pointed at because of the noise they made Its great work your doing, cars of that age seem to be vanishing quicker than the 70's cars were 20 years ago, and you've certainly got a way of getting the most out of them.

So after picking the car up from the mot it has developed a fault going into limp mode and a warning light flashing up The car has only done 10 miles in nine years so I’m of the opinion it could be the cam sensor? We had replaced the crank sensor , coil pack and fresh fuel as part of waking it up from storage Any advice or info appreciated??

Sounds about right Dan, its cam or crank sensor 99% of the time and you've already done one. Not sure if it applies to these engines but on the 16v the wiring to the cam sensor can get a bit crispy with age and location, and throws the same fault. Speaking of which, you can flash the code with a paperclip, and then number of flashes will correspond to a code, there should be info here www.mk3oc.com/forum/threads/ecu-codes-self-diagnosis-paperclip-test.15032/If you cant see it I'll copy and paste it, long post though

There aren't many sensors on this engine, you only have a crank sensor and MAP sensor, no cam sensor, I would be looking at the crank sensor or coil pack even though you have changed them as there are some rubbish pattern parts available!
As astranaut said you really need to do the blink code thing to point you in the right direction

I'm sure it's just teething Dan. You will soon have it sorted and ready for a proper shakedown.

This is so clean. The 17” Corsa wheels are far too new and too big but I have to say it would look great on a set of these -

It will have the original steels with the trims we bought from gtviva on it soon We’re probably lucky George’s workplace is still open so it was possible to get it motd For now until the lockdown is over it will be kept at home Then back off to get it on the diagnostics to sort the running issue out and we have to find a new driveshaft boot

And I will add whilst I was waiting outside the garage I saw at first hand why it’s important some small garages have remained open A local community nurse turned up In a Nissan qashqai sounding terrible She was panicking as she had many visits to do and there staff levels are down due to illness My boy and his colleague got a poly belt delivered within half an hour and fitted it straight away for the lady So she could get back on her rounds Fair play .....and did I feel a bit proud of my son?? Of course I did That small garage has really helped its regular and local community this week

And IMO a good reason why we should still try and use these garages where we can, so they have enough work to keep operating without shutting down and furloughing completely Well done to George and the garage too

Awesome Car! Although I have never liked the mk3 Astra. I did have a nice late one in purple once and my mind was semi changed. I love a standard survivor car. Its a real credit to you and your boy! Keep it up!

The part number for the selector switch is 9118273 and nothing I have at present, mad money from Vauxhall! its nothing special just a set of contacts that slide over each other and if you've a mind to some people have managed to get them apart to clean
Or just sit in the car and keep cycling the gear lever through all the positions which may well help on a short term basis

Car now back on its original steel wheels And the new Vauxhall wheel trims fitted I definitely now need an auto box cable mine is snapped inside on the gearbox meaning I have to be careful as park has become reverse! Unless I move the cable manually I’ll get on that as soon as I can find a replacement cable And some might notice I’m saying me and not us...I’ve bought the car from George as I think he realised no modifying could be done to it! Quite happy with that I’ll get on with doing a few bits and see where it leads with this one
