Funny that....
The truth.
You would have been eager, despite the truth as you knew what you needed to factor in.
I have a silver Hotwheels model if you want it.
Could be a small model to build at the kitchen table.
Let me know.

Found some interesting curved tube down at the scrapyard and figured I knew what it was for. Now building a front bumper. It's mostly done - mainly the upper grille opening needs bars across it, but there simply wasn't enough non-antisocial time to get the grinding done! So here's video 1 of 2. Definitely changes the look of the front end.

Excellent work.
Grill and bumper build process is good.

Thankyou! The engine's looking a little on the alarmingly exposed side now, so a bash plate needs to happen to go beneath the bumper. I've got a suitable chunk of aluminium plate; just need to get time to fit it!

A bit more welding and grinding and we're done.

Have mounted the radiator properly, as zipties weren't going to do the job in the long term... Actually tried starting the engine too. It's running rough but I'm amazed, given the number of connections for me to forget, that it's running at all.

Seemed antisocial to keep running it with no exhaust... so I've repaired the old one and welded it together so it sits higher up at the back end, following the rather radically modified shape of the rear end of the body.

Well, the front track is 80mm wider and the wheels are parallel again. The wheelbase has also been increased by 20mm to stop the back edges of the tyres catching on the arches. Had fun finding simple ways to make the driveshafts and steering rack work but got it together in the end. Wishbone WIP shot: Full video: I know it's way too late, but I could be wrong. But the wishbones you have had to modify are the uber rare small front bush type. That everyone in TT/S3 etc hold dearly too.

Interesting. They came off a standard Mk4 Golf that was being broken and weren't sold as anything out of the ordinary. What diameter are the small front bushes, and I'll check in daylight? If so, that's a shame - I'd have modified some ordinary ones if I'd known!

Well, we're still not driving. Got distracted by shiny things instead and fitted some spotlights. Spotlights are more important than things like fixing a wheel bearing, or fitting an anti-roll bar, or any of that lot, right? So... one Audi TT, now with spotlights.

Quieter week this week due to real-life stuff getting between me and the tools. We did compression test the engine together though:

ODB would have been proud of you, he liked it raw after all. And didn't he say something like 'TT is for the children'?

Well, at long last, it's mobile! Not road legal, so we can't actually get anywhere to take it off road yet, but eminently driveable!

Made some intercooler pipework and hooked the intake up. Runs a whole lot better now, so Julia could try driving it. It's a manual, so her first experience behind the wheel was mostly about clutch control!

Spent, well, a lot of time doing boring bits that didn't merit a video in their own right but do get us closer to road legal. Also built a ramp to test suspension flex. This proved that, well, it's an Audi TT and not a rock crawler, but even so, articulation wasn't terrible:

And after almost exactly a year of cutting, welding, scratching my head and shouting at it, it's road legal! Exactly how sound or otherwise it is remains to be seen - it has a nasty habit of bogging down when cold, and I think it's misfiring - but never mind all that for the moment. It runs, it drives, it turns heads, it hasn't broken down... yet!

Cool project. I fancy doing similar with a MK2 TDI one. Spare wheels set into the rear hatch though would make it look sweet.
