I'm sure a few of us thought the 2017 concept for the Honda EV looked pretty exciting from a retro point of view: It's now in production, sadly the design is heavily watered down, but that was always going to happen. It's still quite an interesting car though. I think in a few years it would be cool to get hold of one and modify it to closer match the concept:

I absolutely love this thing, and Jonny’s video is tip-top.

The funny thing about this is that the concept that wowed at the shows was designed after the 'production' version. That's right—they wanted something to provide more column inches so made a more extreme version of the one they knew would go into production.
I really like both - really I'd most like one thats somewhere between the two.. Sadly the prod version has a tiny boot and no frunk to speak of which is a shame. (as is the range) Sort of has some last gen Skoda Felicia about it but cuter.

I thought the concept was amazing, production version is still my favourite ev to date. But, it's going to be roughly the same price as the Yaris GR4 that's coming out soon and if I was going to buy something brand-new it would be the Yaris. 260bhp, 4wd with front and rear lsd's, manual with a one off body win's 😂

The funny thing about this is that the concept that wowed at the shows was designed after the 'production' version. Interesting to learn, it certianly seemed to have paid off, this was all over my social media feed at the time with various friends sharing it. it's going to be roughly the same price as the Yaris GR4 that's coming out soon and if I was going to buy something brand-new it would be the Yaris. 260bhp, 4wd with front and rear lsd's, manual with a one off body win's 😂 That does sound good. I think the top spec Honda was around 150bhp. No matter what your thoughts on moderns, these more compact cars will make some interesting future donors for those of us who like the modern running gear in an old shell.

The concept version's certainly got more than a little Z600 to it (to me)

Was my immediate thought that it had shades of the 600... The concept version's certainly got more than a little Z600 to it (to me)

I would buy one if it wasn't so expensive as it would go veeeery well wrapped in orange with our gen 1 civic. That and I have watched Harry's review of an EV recently to be disgruntled at the charging system being so stupid for non-teslas which I would have to use every time I went to visit my dad as the range on that car isn't big enough for that trip.

Nice, but too expensive.

An EV isn't really on my list for practicality reasons, though I like the idea of them. If I wanted to actually buy one, this would be the top of my list! It's a great looking car, whichever way you look at it.

Everyone I know who’s got an EV blabs on about ’how much they’ve saved’. Except they haven’t because they’ve paid at least £10k more for a comparable ICE car. That’s a LOT of petrol/diesel

The concept was really amazing. I'd like to have this car. That is what I thought until I had a test drive ! the camera idea and screens instead of external mirrors was a big no no for me I just could not come to terms with it at all, even after a second longer test drive. A real shame as I loved the rest of it.

A real shame as I loved the rest of it. That's my issue with modern cars to be honest, not just EVs like the Honda. They keep on trying to reinvent the wheel and add 'value' for the sake of it. Rather like internet enabled fridges and washing machines, they just add a pointless layer of complexity with no genuine benefit and just succeed in creating a mess. From a design point of view, the latest insistence on massive screens in everything looks awful, it just looks like someone glued an Amazon Fire tablet to the dashboard. The more expensive the car, the more hideous the installation and if there was one place that doesn't need and really shouldn't have a huge screen, it's the drivers seat of a car. I really liked both the Honda concept and quite like the production car, in fact it's the first EV that genuinely caught my eye but all that unnecessary electronic guff just puts me right off. I don't need a bloody screen in everything, it's infuriating.

Agree with pseudo about the screens in modern cars. I’ve not driven anything with the sort of modern tech that is going on now in cars, but it’s illegal to use a mobile phone in a car so why do car manufacturers now make cars that have basically the same thing to control everything from heater function to changing the radio station.
