Hi everyone,
Last year was a lazy year for me on the car front. The Beta and both Deltas sat untouched in the garage, and the Dedra I was using daily with the rotten doors still on her, and the perfect doors sat in the garage waiting to go on, until one evening in November the intercooler blew its top off with an almighty bang. There i parked her up in the garage, and haven't yet got round to the intercooler or doors. Inmy defense it was a crazy busy year on the work and personal front. This year will be better!
Which leads me to this.. I get a call last November from Zagato in London saying he has a car that would be perfect for me. A deal was brokered and when England were trouncing the All Blacks in the World Cup Semi Final, my girlfriend was driving me down (so i could watch the game!) to pick up this

For many years she has been used to amble to the shops and back a couple of times a week in London, so has not had to do much for a while. That soon changed and I put almost 1000 miles on her in a month. after a month she started stuttering and choking under boost. An inspection soon found the culprit 3 clean splits in the little flexi connector. i couldn;t get hold of one, and needed a quick fix so i got out the trusty gaffer tape I have ordered a silicon replacement intake which should do the job. The intake just seems unnecessarily complicated to me. as can be seen the intake goes 90 degree right out the air box through the MAF, then 180 degree turn under itself to go back to the turbo. I think a straight out of the turbo with the MAF incorporated would be sufficient, simpler and make it easier to get around the engine. She was making a knocking noise when going round a corner at slow speeds. I replaced the ball joints, and when jacking up the front end to replace them part of the nearside spring fell out. calling round, it appears i can no longer get springs, or would have to wait for a long while. Luckily Zagato had a 35mm lowering spring set for the Thema 8.32 and Turbo. I purchased these so now she sits slightly lower I went back to my parents over the Christmas period, and parked up the Lancia tucked up close to the side of my house for protection. when i came back i was greeted with this Moisture and damp throughout! After a minor panic I cleaned her out and put an air compressor into the drain pipes. all were clogged and no end of grit and horrible matter came blasting out. It has cured it mostly but when i come out to her in the morning, or if its cold, the inside of the rear windows especially have condensation. I am guessing a seal has perished slightly and will need to look into it further. I managed to take her to the breakfast club in January too which was a good morning I am going to tidy up the bodywork, fix the niggly electrical issues such as no console lights and interior light not working. The steering wheel needs replacing or restoring as it is peeling. I would also love the Alloys from the Thema below but can't find a set anywhere. The pinstripe i also like a lot! The exhaust is also blowing so will replace that with stainless. Being Integrale there are a few things i may do too, remap, cams etc to really open up her potential

The amount of effort they put in to redesigning the climate control panel when they could of just used the same saab 9000 part - First time I have ever seen one and love spotting the odd use of parts shared between cars on the 'type 4' platform. Door handles look the same, as does the top view panel for doors open/closed. Even the battery position and clamp are the same.
What model of turbo does it have?

Very interesting car. I've heard about the Delta from a wheeler dealers episode but know nothing about them really. To get a close look at your car (very similar) helps get a feel for what they are. Is this a front wheel drive car? How much horsepower does it make and what does it weigh? I'm just curious- these figures will give me an idea of how fast it is.

If I recall correctly, It shares the main body with a Saab 9000 and alfa 164, to give you an idea of size. Lookup the thema 8.32 for Ferrari / Lancia fun

is yours Lord Blue? The Thema is Lord Blue but looks different shade to yours. It does need a good machine polish though.

I am not sure I have seen another type 4 up close tbh. It would be interesting to have two or three together to see the common parts on them (handy for spares knowledge). You are right though, I bet a lot of money could have been saved using common parts and maybe just having different brand personalised fascia's.
Turbo wise I am not actually sure. It maybe a T3, but need to get under to see it and find out. I'm curious myself so will let you know.

It also shares with the Fiat Croma.
Grenade, the car is FWD but has a 'viscodirve'. I am not sure if this is a Lancia only creation or other cars ever utilised these too. The visco was to aid getting the power down without losing grip. The Dedra also has one.
www.lancia.myzen.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=3578.0 more info on Visco drive here.
BHP I don't know the exact power. The 16v Integrale had from about 205bhp upwards and this is running for all intents and purposes an Integrale engine (turbo I need to confirm). I should suspect this is running around 200bhp if not a little more. it weighs just under 1500kg.
I have an RCZ 2.0HDI which whilst isn't crazy quick can pack a punch. I am confident the Thema would leave the Peugeot in a straight line up to 100mph. The Thema starts to slow up then whereas the Peugeot will keep going to 130mph+ at a fair pace. The Thema also has no problem keeping up with, if not leaving, many modern german saloons.
Once I have had a new exhaust on, and remap (it wasn't mapped after the Integrale head put on which I think would unleash a little more due to valves being bigger) and I am contemplating some high rise cams for it I will get it dynos to see what power it really is pushing.

She looks very nice, well bought! Where did you get the silicone replacement hoses? Also, would you mind giving me your impression on the lowering springs and how it compares to stock ride height and comfort? Does it provide a large improvement in performance and handling? Can you survive potholes and speedbumps ok? I have ordered a silicon replacement intake which should do the job. The intake just seems unnecessarily complicated to me. as can be seen the intake goes 90 degree right out the air box through the MAF, then 180 degree turn under itself to go back to the turbo. I purchased these so now she sits slightly lower It has been a while since I've been on here, so apologies for not replying sooner. I got the silicone replacement from Twinz, just a straight replacement for the broken part. I do want to take the car and get a complete one piece made up, another job on the list! handling wise to be honest has not made much of a difference. she is still a bit of a boat, and all round comfy cruiser. I can get over potholes and speedbumps without too much of a problem, but have to slow right down. Driving up ramps to work on her is always a challenge however. Looks wise I think it makes the car look so much better. you can see below at a Lancia meet how she sits lower than the 8.32 to her right, and the other Themas in the line. so, what else have I been up to? I had her front end repsrayed at the end of 2020 as it was in a poor state paint wise. I also bought a Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo last year, and so the Thema was packed away whilst I spent last year enjoying that. A few weeks ago, we got the Thema back out of hibernation to clean her up. changed all the belts, water pump and tensioners, new bonnet cable, and gave her a thorough clean and detail inside and out. Then we took her to a couple of car shows... The Lancia Motor Club 75th Anniversary meet two weeks ago, and the Festival of the Unexceptional last Sunday
