Not until April 2021, it will be my 60th and my ever loving and suffering wife has said she will buy me a ‘nice, reliable’ car. ‘Great’ thought I, then the realisation dawned, great turned into WTF, what on earth am I going to choose, budget is £2500. There is so much out there, retro/modern, coupe/saloon/estate/4x4, I am fretting already 🥺

£2500 on one of your existing fleet, to make it nice/reliable? Could maybe get someone else to do some of the work? Unless you REALLY want something else?

That thought crossed my mind, it would get my 155 back on the road in fabulous condition, I think I am hankering for something I have never owned before, I’m sure my mind will change a thousand times.

I know, I have had 20 Alfa’s over 13 years, only stranded twice, a clutch slave and a burst radiator, that’s not bad 😇

Tried to buy an alfa once, a ‘sud, before I managed to complete the deal the PO had a bottom arm snap and put it in a ditch 6 months later he got a letter from Alfa uk recalling it because of a risk of the bottom arms snapping 😀

don't knock the alfasud, fondest memories* of almost any car were in an alfasud.
* personal experience, others may differ in practice.

A W124 would be my pick, albeit a 4 cylinder variant at that money. The diesels are a little too pricey now, as as the 6 pots worth having without needing to spend cash on them.
But, as suggested, is it not tempting to put the cash towards your existing fleet, or one of your cars? I've just started to do that now. Strange feeling not getting another car, but then the dreams are always better than reality!

Geordie's Maxima would be a great shout. Rare, reliable, clearly looked after and a very interesting motor. Maybe an advance on that gift 😎?

Great minds and all that, same thought was with me today, alas no advances, she has to save up and nowhere to keep it at this time.
