I've been following this guy for a few years on Flickr Not sure if you can go and buy a kit for a 917 , if you could i bet it wouldn't be cheap , so just have a go and make one in your barn !! Such dedication and an awesome skill set , If I ever need inspiration for my 240Z I just have a look through the photo's of what he's achieved so far and it always makes my little problem so much less, Porsche 917 Replica

Amazing work The only thing that occurs to me is if Porsche bigwigs will get upset about him putting the stickers down the sides? Remember the furore when the ‘Beast’ has a Rolls Royce grille, and subsequent court cases?

Hi Guys/Gals. I am the builder of this, mad I think at times but very rewarding. Indeed you are quite correct re Porsche fun police not liking logo but think I have a way around it or will just remove it as it's only painted on. Molds are easy, the shape and angles along with surface finish are key. Use a decent quality wax, no PVA and the parts will pop out very easily. The main buck has to be relatively strong to take the weight of the mold over it but all the other small parts are very simple to do, the key is getting the shape, it doesnt have to be that strong as long as it retains it's shape when you make the mould. I have used steel as it's quick and easy, cleaned up and waxed and you can take a part off it or make a mold very quickly. It has been a rewarding project so far, have met some great people (also some complete idiots/messers) but hope to get the engine in it this Winter/Spring and start the final assembly, which is when it will finally start to look like a car! Then the fun part will be getting the engine running, it is Direct Injection as opposed to port so a decent ECU will be needed (have this sorted) and with a larger throttle body and a decent exhaust I hope to se 350hp out of it and hoping for the car to come in around 900kg or less (hopefully!!) although not weighed it yet or any component but I have built it with lightness in mind, the bodywork as thin as I can get away with etc etc So it should go well, if I ever get it finished!!! Thanks for the compliments regards Chris
