Whats this about then?
Well instead of filling up my other threads with random stuff that doesnt really fit in i have decided to create a dump here in the hope that some people will enjoy the read maybe finding it interesting/usefull.
For anyone that is going to say "Just save the hassle and buy a modern radio" feel free to sign out now, this thread isnt for you.
The first project that kicked this off is a set of old toyota radios.
I went and collected a big pile of parts just before christmas and proceded to leave a few bits behind that i meant to get.
So I messaged the guy a few days later and he posted me the rest of the bits which included this stack of old toyota radios and some antenna parts for a few additional beer tokens.
The Cassette deck appears to be from a Toyota CROWN which is making my ability to find anything on it rather difficult.
The other 3 are various additional CD players that connect to the tape player through this connector.
This is quite a usefull feature as it allows one player or the other to have the ability to put the other player into standby.
My thought is that i can use this to my advantage and create a "middle-man" which will be bluetooth module which should play my music through the inbuilt amp the same as the CD player would but should also allow it to pause any other media that might be playing when a phonecall comes in.
The particulars need ironing out and i still need to figure out what all the connectors are for as there appears to be some spares.
I delved into the depths of browsing through as many toyota radio pinouts as i could find eventually landing on this.
Its not quite correct as i have an extra connector
And an extra antenna port (I'm assuming for a JDM frequency) but its a start and gave me enough data to get the units powered up.
Looking at the units most stuff appears to be working, i connected up a speaker to one of te outputs and found that i could get something from the cd but nothing from the tape.
Also the cd player thats currently connected seems to be a bit intermittent and didnt play all the time.
One thing that bugged me was the tape player display…. its dark.
Since i have the illumination pin held high it should be getting lit up providing the radio has the facility.
So testing over its time to open her up.
Yup definitely not working.
The bulbs solder in the back.
And you can see they are well and truly toasted
I didnt have any replacement bulbs to hand but i did have some 3mm green LED’s so fitted them with some 100ohm resistors to match the brightness of the rest of the bulbs.
And reconnect the board
Looks just about spot on even if i say so myself.
So easy bit done the next job it to find out why its not playing, My bet would be on a loose connetor or dry joint. Although having thought about it i might just try a different tape first.
