I wasn't sure whether to post anything about this one. It is growing on me though, despite its... Yellowness. You could say its very very very VERY yellow. It's was originally a paler yellow like custard. But somebody has resprayed it this metaflake yellow. It's extremely bright and glittery I only originally got this because it was the closest car for sale to me when the focus decided to wibblepoo itself on the driveway. It was up for £900 which was a bit cheeky. Paid £600 for it. It was on 135k No service history New paint New windscreen New exhaust Seemed alright on the test drive and needed a car to get to work the next day so paid my money and drove home

So this would have been in about late September. It had and has a few issues The most immediate one was that the exhaust was separating at the first cat. The previous owner had wrapped the new manifold down to the second cat in exhaust wrap. I reckon that it was this that had split it. Either that or its just a rubbish cheapo exhaust. Bodges are a running theme on cars I buy and this one is no different. Someone had been there before me. I'm not surprised it was leaking I mean, it was just about noticeable when I bought it. By the time I got round to fixing it, it was louder than the paint. Not my best welding but a improvement on the pigeon curse word that was there before. Annoyingly I snapped off the the post cat lambda sensor while welding. That's still on the to do list. With that done I could suddenly hear a grinding from the rear. One of the rear pads had run out Christ. My daily audi was dead at this point so I was relying on this for work. Interestingly it had had new pads on the other side but not this side. Who does that? Anyway. New pads, sliders freed up and greased and missing clips replaced. Back driving again

So that is all the work carried out so far on the car. It got used a lot while I was doing the cambelt on the audi. I haven't even given it a wash It's issues are catching up with it now though. It has a noisy clutch release bearing. There's also another more worrying noise coming from the gearbox. It only happens when the engine is cold. I don't fancy stripping the gearbox. The bearing kits are about £150 Other issues are; Sloppy gear linkage Needs front tyres Electric mirror switch wired the wrong way Lambda sensor Slight radiator weep Cam cover oil leak Steering sloppy Temp display on rev counter reads -40 Speedo needle sometimes sticks Passenger door doesn't unlock Rear wiper spring missing Needs a service Just doing the tyres and clutch adds up to half the value of the car. If the gearbox needs new bearings then that could be the whole value. I'm undecided what to do with it at the minute. It's at a place where I wouldn't get what I paid for it with its faults but I could end up paying the value of the car fixing it. Having said that, if I do fix all the faults and give it a good service it could be worth more than what I paid and I could recoup some of the money spent. Either way, there's a manual box ready to go in the audi so I'll need this while that's happening

I've tried capturing the gearbox noise. It only happens very briefly though at around the 11 second mark. The rest of the noise is the dog walking about.

i have a silver parts car with a good box but dead clutch Whereabouts are you? I was hoping the noise is just the clutch release bearing but the noise doesn't change when you press the clutch. And these gearboxes have a horrible reputation

I got an offer from a mate at work I couldn't refuse. A 52 plate Cooper S. I've known Dave for years and he's always had this car so I know it had been looked after. It was parked up in the works carpark January when he went away with work on detachment. Due to covid they ended up spending 6 months out there. When he got back the car wouldn't turn over. He tried jump starting it but it still wouldn't turn over. So he got a new battery. Still wouldn't turn over. So he bumped it while being towed with another car and got it going and drove it to the other side of camp. The drive belt snapped in the car park and it started to get hot after that so he shut it off and left it. He's always got the car mot'd and serviced at BMW so went and asked them how much it would cost to fix but ended up leaving with a BMW 2 series. WeBuyAnyCar.com were offering him £50 for it as it is or £600 working. I offered £200 and it was mine. Paid the man and took some obligatory pictures The paint on the bonnet and front bumper is hideous. It hasn't been painted in daves ownership so must have a a front end bump at some point. The rest of the paint looks original and in fairly good nick. The interior is very god and still has the original overmats which has kept the carpet in good nick. Work done over the last few years that he can remember has been 2 new wheels from BMW as the old ones were corroding and full stainless scorpion exhaust. He says it's been serviced at every mot since he's got it too. Unfortunately he's kept no paperwork which is a shame. The fault turned out to be a seized alternator. The car is missing its undertray and the alternator is right at the bottom so I'm guessing that getting covered in road salt over the winter and then parked up for 6 months didn't agree with it. It did start and run though. Sounded really tappety. You can just see a crack running round the alternator More soon!

A new alternator was going to cost over £100. So got a second hand one locally which turned out to be nearly new anyway. Result! Loaded up the alternator, a new belt, some tools and the old battery which I'd charged up into the trusty yellow cooper and headed to work BMW have the sheer cheek to call this removal of the front of the car needed to get to the alternator, "the service position". How they've made the engine bay access worse than a real mini is beyond me. Anyway. Old alternator on the right, "new" on the left I've never seen one crack before. Pretty impressive. All back together and took the time to grease up all the nuts and bolts and line up the front bumper better And it runs! The revs where hanging a bit but that seems to have sorted itself out now. The tappet noise has gone too. Took it home and gave it a good wash and vacuum It is an absolute Hoot to drive! If you've never driven one, they are cheap at the moment. Extremely fun little car and the supercharger whine is addictive. Sadly this meant the yellow cooper was surplus to requirements and has now been sold. Jobs to do on the S Radiator Left front wheel bearing Servo vacuum leak Cam cover gasket leak Service Gearbox oil change. Supercharger service Paint. Also Dave has informed me her name is Lucille So more on Lucille soon

I was give one with only 3 pistons in for free. Put an engine in it and my mate has it 3 years. Cool fun little car. Alternator did exactly the same thing to me when I borrowed it for a few weeks. Had to do a 10 mile drive running out of electricity, lost power steering, just made it home.
Had to do front wishbone bushes, which is a pain as the bolts go from the top down so subframe drop job.
Enjoy it. Any question I now know them pretty well!

Front wheel bearings come as a hub assembley. And 9 times out of ten are usually quite easy to do. I done a dog rough mini on an 04 recentley front bearing that was on 120k and that came apart easily. Just 4 bolts from behind the hub and lots of wd40 and hammer action!
