1978 Toyota Cressida Estate project
Okay where to start, this car is one of only a few estates sold in this body style in the UK (unofficially one of seven)
I bought it because it's cool and importantly it is very solid, I always had plans to put the Toyota 1UZFE engine in and so after 11 days of owning it I sent it off to a garage to have the conversion done.
Things did not go to plan, two and a half years later I got the car back in a very sorry state, the engine is in but not wired to run, the suspension is air ride but is leaking and not fitted very well at all.
I no longer have the desire to finish the car after all that has happened but my loss could be your gain the engine/box and wiring loom is probably worth close to £3k on its own.
Exterior
The body is very solid as stated and the paint is very good save for a poor paint repair by the garage that had it after they put a little ding in it, Ideally it needs redoing.
It has a new stainless fuel tank.
All the chrome bits are there bumpers etc/ original mirrors have gone missing but I do have some replacement mirrors that will come with the car.
Interior
The interior is all original and in great condition, the only thing that needs doing is the drivers door card needs covering at the bottom.
Engine and gearbox
The engine and gearbox are out of a Lexus LS400, its the early unit so stronger internals and non interference fit, it is mounted in the engine bay along with the gearbox, gear linkage is connected with a new prop out to the diff. It has a stainless radiator but no cooling system is plumbed in at present, It is not wired to run currently but it has been running. There is no exhaust.
I bought a full plug and play loom from phoenix engine management which comes with all fuses and relays required to run the engine with the original ecu.
The engine has had a new cam belt and water pump as well as two new rotor arms.
Suspension
The air suspension needs redoing or replacing, I was going to put it back to stock with a little drop.
Wheels are banded steels in bronze.
Summary
I have lost interested in the car, truth be told I actually hate thinking about it but that is all down to the situation itself and not the actual car, I have other things going on in my life just now that need my full attention and this is a distraction I could do without, I know it will make a great car when it's done and you won't see another like it in the UK.
I'm not going to pretend it's a weekends work but if you have the talent and the vision to finish it or put your own stamp on it then you will have one very cool very rare estate car to smoke about in. Top points in JDM top trumps!
I am more than happy to answer any questions and you are encouraged to come and view it.
£5000 is what I want for it and as 70s Japanese wagons go I think that's cheap for what will be an amazing car when someone with the talent finishes it.
