Calling all cars, a road legal Ford Sierra 1.6 Laser Police car recreation.
EQUIPMENT
Wide bodyside mouldings with chrome inserts, remote control door mirrors, laminated windscreen, halogen headlamps, tilt/slide screened glass sunroof, digital clock, two speed plus variable intermittent wipe, heated rear window, trip recorder, cigar lighter, electronic anti-theft model radio cassette. Police car equipment; Professionally fitted decals, Police crest and Police lettering, Blue siren light, soundtrack recording of television program, The Bill. Dealer options; Ford Extra Cover plan (now expired!).
EXTERIOR
Dare to be different and stand out from the crowd with this Police replica Ford Sierra whilst pretending to be DC Alfred ‘Tosh’ Lines or DCI Frank Burnside from ITV’s The Bill, or indeed whoever you wish, (Police related ideally). This 1990 Ford Sierra Laser is finished in Ford Diamond White, (Code B3), and has undergone the professional fitting of Police replica decals and Cambridgeshire Constabulary Police crest, along with detachable roof mounted blue light. A car that was a regular daily driver until 2019, this Sierra having provided reliable service to its long-term owner for 26 years is not to the usual KGF Classic Cars standard but looks great and has real presence. Very presentable overall, the car on inspection has age related markings and routine repair work to the sills and underside has been undertaken. The wheel arches, door tops and other common weak areas are sound but historical work is evident. All trim sections, lights, glass and badges are present and fully intact. A perfect prop car or simply for the classic Ford and Police memorabilia enthusiast with a big sense of humour!
INTERIOR
The Madrid trim in Shadow Grey colour scheme, (Code L5), is clean and in very good order with an amateur repair patch to the driver’s outer bolster. The matching door cards have some shrinkage to the fabric, a common occurrence, and some markings. Having not actually served as a Police car, the rear seats have not been frequented by villains and remain in excellent order. The dashboard is complete free from cracks and houses fully functioning switchgear and gauges with exception of the Ford radio which powers up but does not work. The original parcel shelf is straight and uncut in tune with the cars unmolested appeal. Clean, functional and oozing retro comfort, wonderful.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original 1593cc OHC Pinto engine develops 75bhp to achieve a ‘Baddie’ catching top speed of 103mph and 0-60mph in a reasonable 13.3 seconds. Remaining in standard specification and subject to regular comprehensive servicing as evidenced in the colossal history file, the engine runs and drives beautifully and is a joy to drive. The five-speed synchromesh gearbox is light and effortless. Never have Police austerity cuts been so much fun!
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original 13”steel wheels wear the correct genuine trims which have been amateurishly refurbished and cracks visible. 165/80 R13 tyres have plenty of tread remaining. The very clean boot area houses the spare wheel, Ford jack and wheel disc board whilst the perfectly preserved boot floor still has factory stickers attached. The dual line servo assisted G-Valve brakes with ventilated 10.5” front discs and rear drums bring the car up to a steady, straight and assured halt.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Ford Main Dealer, Jessops of Stamford, and registered new on 11th May 1990, the vehicle was purchased new by Mr Arthur Popple. At three years old, Mr Popple traded the car back to the supplying dealer, Jessops, and it was promptly sold to Mr Cyril Plant. Remarkably, Mr Plant owned the car for 26 years until his sad passing in 2019. Used as a daily driver and maintained to the highest order, the massive history file speaks for itself with a huge collection of invoices, receipts and every single MOT since the first in 1993! Perusal of the history would literally devour hours of time and also includes the full Jessops Ford book pack with the service book containing 19 stamped entries. Routine cambelt changes have been carried out. The current mileage is fully verified at 97,656 miles. Mr Plant has kept absolutely everything even down to dealership correspondence including when he wrote to them to express his appreciation of them valeting the car and to please pass on his thank you to the Valeters!
Close to home for KGF Classic Cars, this Sierra has remained in the Peterborough area its entire life and its acquisition by KGF Classic Cars was down to our Operations Manager, Steve. Having recently moved to a new home, Steve was carrying out evening dog walking duties and came across the car on a nearby driveway. Upon striking up a conversation with the late Mr Plant’s son, Colin, it became apparent that the car needed a new home. Seeing the cars potential and wishing to save the car from an uncertain fate, a deal was struck and both Steve and Angus the Westie returned home with the car, much to the bemusement of long suffering yet very understanding partner, Sarah. The Police car project is now complete and this truly brilliant but not perfect car is ready to enjoy or even earn money on the prop circuit. If you must be arrested, do it in retro style!
Road legal, MOT December 2020, HPI Clear.
