Being nosy I'd be interested in learning what your idea of 'low balling' for this car was? It's very cool! The Allegro estate would be one of my tips for cars due to dramatically escalate in value, they're getting very thin on the ground and I think they're on the verge of becoming cult. With the car being sound and well-serviced there's absolutely no reason why this shouldn't make a fabulous family daily. Re. Engine upgrade. I owned an Allegro, same year as yours, (1300cc), when the engine had reached the end of its life my brother rebuilt it, oversized pistons, racing cam, double valve-springs, meaty carb. In the late 80's my Allegro could out-accelerate some very expensive sports cars of the day.

....starts chanting... lows and wheels lows and wheels lows and wheels LOWS and WHEELS! Just put low profile tyres on those rims, and let the fluid out. Sorted. Seriously though, if you lower it properly on those rims I'm sure that's all it would need. Its a great car that, just needs adjusting, not changing.

Cheers fellas.
Not into lowered cars massively. I like my cars to be useable and family friendly.
The 14” stag wheels should fill the arches once I let the suspension down to the right height, I pumped it up a bit higher than stock so it could settle.
Bit by bit it’s coming together. Fuel sender to free off next, and then I need to look at the exhaust because the centre box baffles have come loose and the rattles drive me mad!
It’s a great family friendly bus so far 👍

Always thought the Allegro had a funny shape but with this colour and the vinyl roof I really like it

The exhaust was annoying the hell out of me, the centre box had a loose baffle that rattled like mad. On my last Allegro, the blue sprint car Ed owns now, I modified a 2" Sportex mini centre exit system. This time, trying to watch the spends, I bought a new Peugeot 206 exhaust for £20 off ebay and cobbled together a new system, using a scimitar mid box and few odds and sods I had kicking around. Its a bit big, but it has quite a nice deep burble now!

Thanks guys.
Latest job has been to retrofit a voltage stabiliser to the fuel and temp gauge.
Whoever had done the gauges had stuck them straight onto the 12v supply so I had an ambitious fuel gauge and an above average temperature reading.
The father in law donated a new unit so everything is now reading correctly.
The volt meter back light bulb hider has disintegrated but fortunately the clock blub holders of an Aprillia Rs50 are a perfect fit for the smiths gauges! 👍

Just had to register as I stumbled across this picture. I used to own this car, and it was me who fitted the Stag wheels and custom made the dashboard. Most of the series 3 electrics were fitted too if I remember correctly to facilitate the handbrake on lamp and choke on warning lamp. Did have plans to fit the early MG maestro 1600 engine with the twin weber DCNF carbs that were factory fitted. Was also planning on adapting coilover shocks in place of the hydrogen units. I'm sure the rear suspension worked out at a 5:1 ratio and the front 3:1. Glad to see it's still getting used!
