Time to check my maths on boost and pulley sizes...... The Vauxhall bottom pulley measures out at 159mm diameter - partnered with my small 50mm pulley - gives a theoretical boost of 14psi !! Ohhh - that might be a bit much on a engine with stock internals, and also gets the supercharger very close to its red-line at the Morris redline So I've ordered up a 55mm pulley for 11.5psi - again might be too much But I'll start with a 62mm for 8.5psi The pulleys need a keyway slot cut into them to fit the supercharger, so I figured once I'm setup to cut one, I might as well do a complete set, as I've no idea what non-theoretical boost will be. My rough measurement shows the original Morris bottom pulley to be about 112mm, so a fair bit smaller, so I risk over-driving the waterpump and the alternator. More maths shows I need a water pump pulley of approx 120mm - not sure what I'm going to use yet. If anone has a lead on a pulley that looks like this and is about 120mm diameter and takes a 6PK belt - I'd be very grateful Somewhat more crucial is the alternator pulley. Because I'm going old-school with a cable driven tachometer from the alternator. The last bit of maths for the day puts this as an 82.5mm pulley Closest I can find off of the shelf, which will have to be close enough is an 80mm. Guess what has an 80mm 6PK alternator pulley...... Ferrari 430 !! Still - less than £80 on my doorstep, so that will have to do. More later.

You can get your revcounter recalibrated to suit whatever ratio you end up with, I think speedy cables provide the service Ttfn Glenn

After about 9 hours of fab on mounting brackets, finally getting somewhere with the mounts. Still just prototypes but beginning to take shape - literally. Oh and I've got a pulley in place, after cutting a keyway in the pulley. I didn't bother mocking up the slots/holes in the rear mount. The base plate can be slimmed down a lot when the time comes. I need a waterpump and alternator pulley now

So water pump pulley then.... I'm not very adept at holding stuff in the lathe. So I decided to steal the main shaft from the old original water pump, and fit a nice shiny pump. That allowed me to carve off the fins for the v-pulley, and the old yellow paint !!! I used the same logic, and bought a complete Citroen power steering pump for £20. Again I planned to hold the pulley in the lathe, and cut out the center. But because of the holes - the chattering was too much. But it gave me a perfect line to work to. Slitting disc and the angry end on the die grinder got me this. That still needs a lot of work, but I was able to get a tack weld on, and then check for run out using a dial-gauge, and then some more tacks. +-5thou was as good as I could get it. I'm sure that will be fine. The bracket for the tensioner caused a few moments staring into space whilst I tried to cram it into a small space. The break through came when I decided to mount the pulley back-to-front. The bracket started life like this..... A few holes here, a radius and grind of the welds, and it was ready for a fit up. Along with a strap to show the belt line. It is a shame Halfords only sell wiper blades and air-fresheners, and not the 6PK1680 belt I need. But it matters not, I've gone about as far as I can with this stage. The alternator pulley is pretty close to being aligned - well within a couple of mm - but that is an easy one to tune. The water pump pulley looks good, but I want to double check it before fully welding it up. The supercharger is on temporary aluminium brackets. I need to give @johnnybravo time to do his laser-cutting magic. So the next stage could well be to pull the engine, and get it on a stand, where all this stuff will be much easier to measure/align/check. I've also decided I'm going to go the whole hog, and go Nodiz. I don't believe it is strictly necessary, but it will allow me to tidy up lots of components in the engine bay. I've got a trigger wheel to go on the back of the crank pulley, but need to sort our bracketry for the sensor, and some timing marks. All of that will be a lot easier on an engine stand. Thanks for looking

Loving this. Question - have you got enough wrap on the water pump?

Just a thought, on the run from the supercharger to the front pulley, as you go from power on to power off it looks a long enough run to possibly slap about a bit - there's nothing is going to catch on is there?
All looks good though

Loving this. Question - have you got enough wrap on the water pump? Good question on the water pump wrap. Getting some wrap on the pump was a goal for the tensioner/guide pulley. There is about 90 degrees as stock - but that is on a v-belt. I'm hoping a grippy 6PK belt will give a lot more grip - in fact I know it will. The water pump should take a fraction of the power compared to the supercharger or alternator - so fingers crossed. But...... it does seem the alternator has crept upwards on its mounts. Bringing it back down will give a little more wrap. Thanks for the input

All looks good though Good point on belt slop. Edit.... I've looked again at the Moss supercharger install manual, and they've got a pulley on that long run. I'm loathed to mess up the bracket I've already made, as it has turned out rather well, although I say so myself But it will be super easy to add a small bracket below the M on the supercharger bracket, and bolt a pulley to that I'll do that. The only thing I've got to route through that area is the hose from water pump to the bottom of the radiator. I was hoping to use a stock hose, but that isn't going to work. I'll be sure to route the new hose out of the way of the belt travel - and some. Thanks for the sanity check

As a thought if you go down the route of new bracket could angle the adjustment ? Or would a larger adjustment pulley increase the % wrap. Loving this, thanks for sharing. James

Its a valid idea James, and I did ponder that initially, but there isn't much clearance between the pulley and the timing cover there. So getting a spanner on for adjustments would be pretty tricky.

Going to use the alternator bracket for tension or the new one ? If alt bracket long term could do none adjustable hole once trialed ? Sure you don’t need these thoughts as doing a good job without them ! James

Sure you don’t need these thoughts as doing a good job without them ! James All thoughts are good Some kind of threaded adjuster will be nice. Levering the belt tight, and then using my 3 and 4th hand to nip up some bolts has never worked well for me. The Moss kit does the adjustment at the alternator with a thread. I might as well copy that once I get a belt length decided upon.

Is the alternator adjustment bracket on the wrong way around? If you could drop the alternator down as far as possible it would increase the amount of wrap on that water pump pulley significantly. Not that it should need that much force to turn it.

A little bit of progress.... I pushed the alternator down as low as it will go. It is now very close to the oil filter - maybe too close, we'll see. But belt No1 turned up today. So I threw it on. I cant't apply any tension as the supercharger isn't bolted down. I've got a 5mm larger supercharger pulley to go on, and the 2nd idler which was suggested, both of which will need a bit of belt length to work with. But I guess the big news is, I've built my engine stand, and I've got Thursday/Friday off of work - engine is coming out

Loving that adjuster jimThere is a guy on facebook selling them alternatoradjusters, I've no association but for £25 or so - cheap enough if you haven't got left hand taps kicking around.
