I’ve lurked on here for a long while, this is my first post. When my father in law lost his dog he said he wouldn’t get another one. He was as miserable as sin. I told him he’s a man who needs a dog, he eventually got another one and he became the man he used to be again. It strikes me that you’re a man who needs a cat in his life. I’m glad you’ve taken the plunge again. Hope the new arrival settles in well. Good morning mate. I will certainly take it as an honour that you chose to post in here. I love animals, regardless of breed. In the U.K. dogs in my opinion need to be indoors in winter, my regular day job does not allow me to look after one in a way one should Cats are able to use a catflap to go outside, need less walking etc, and,can manage a bit more independent than a,dog. I,am thankful that Molly got to come here, and after a first night can report that she did wake me up at 1.30 doing something in the dark, in my bathroom. So I turned the light on and spent some time with her, then fell asleep again till 5.40 when I got up to get going. Fed her, she used cat litter tray which indicates she knows what it is for. Seems a happy cat, wish I did not need to keep her locked up indoors for a few weeks. But all is good. I have a buddy. |

Yes, a house becomes a home for me, once animals move in. This cat is a good option. She is already aligned with my ways, less than 24 hours. The fast road outside, one can only hope and pray. Tabitha, Dukey and Harley survived all the time from 2010 till old age and illness caught up with them. |

Molly looks really like my cat that lasted an impressive 19 years. You all look very happy so it was a good decision. And well done for taking her on, they do need somewhere inside in winter as you say.

I am, funnily or weirdly, really happy for you and Molly. I love all these photo's. I am sure we will see more of Molly as she takes on her new role of H&S officer, quality controller, and general manager!

I agree with them not living outside, if they do not have to. Ferals are different. |

There is no doubt in my mind that she was (karma) waiting near your engine.
She seems to have dropped right into a cat shaped hole in your (And Sally's) existence.
My wee ktten is now mostly grown up (found/rescued from the engine bay of a VW golf if you remember) and is either, feral and books it away if you reach for him, or becomes a furry ball of playfulness and cuddles....

With the new cat Molly in the house last night, I was not sure if bootfair would be on the cards today. And when she fell off something in the en-suite bathroom at 1.20am I turned on the light to spend a few minutes with her, before she left my room, and back to the lodgers room which she seems to like. I next woke at 05.40 which made for a good night. Considering her, I did think after the last few weeks of absolute junk, not to go. Then got up, made a cuppa tea, fed her and fussed about her. She pee’d in the litter tray, and after breakfast pooped, a healthy mix of deathly pong and some noxious gasses. So to me, that was perfect, as it meant she had accepted this as a place to be for a while, hopefully a long while. She needs to be indoors for a couple of weeks at least so she can root here. Anyway. Off to the Bootfair by 06.30 and it was full,by the time I got there 10 minutes later. As always looking out for various things for various people. I got a 22mm stopcock, brand new, £2.00 Followed by this star for £1.00 it will be part of the new garage forecourt that will happen once the steel guy gets his butt into gear to come do my steel works, will be STAR BRAND GASOLINE using the Sinclair colours.  Part of a deal that gave me a bunch of new and unused kitchen knives, a folding knife and two pairs of secateurs was this lifetime guaranteed Wilkinson Sword item, I have had one for about 30 years, and it is nigh on indestructible, though tired, it still works well, so always said I wished I could find another....... got lucky.  Part of the same deal. What has the world come to? Warnings one everything Let Darwin decide.  Unused. Locking blade, solid.  Another favourite as I have loved these a long time, though expensive at £3.00 it is a solid state and well built 1/12 size model. 2CV heaven.  Flags for £2.00  When I got home, it was a real DejaVu moment as I started to unpack, head into the bag, and then onto the ottoman to check it all out. Like Harley was channelling through Molly. She let me start to unpack after a certain amount of security checking.  Race car out back left, made from a Coke can 50p Aviator helmet, thrown in free with knives. Happy dancing “Coca Cola” bottle £2.00 Hotwheels toys £1.00 for three, Craig gets 4 and I keep 5 Build a camper for craigrk £2.00 The Mum book (great reading for the loo) 20p 2CV £3.00 bargain  By now Molly was comfy. Enamel bucket for kitchen utensils £1.00 new unused Star £1.00 Knives £2.00 Small plug in night light for Molly downstairs 50p Duvet glass 50p “E” tea cup for Elli £1.00 Ultra insect repellent military grade 50p each (loads of mosquitoes)  So this was the best Bootfair of the year, not most bargains, but most happy things. I saw no cat scratching posts, or a Cat Mate water fountain, but faith restored in my local Bootfair. Now got to go work on the Rezin Rockit. Later. |

I’m a firm believer in karma with animals, the right ones find you as much as you find them. When we lost our last collie I’m sure half of town thought my dad had vanished as he was always out with him. It was worse as we’d been stuck at addenbrookes with our son for a week and it really seemed like he waited for us All to get home safe before he passed 😢
We umm’d and ah’d for months over what to do and whether to have another, especially as our son has cerebral palsy and needs a lot of help.
Then I chanced across an ad for a litter of border collie pups locally. After agonising for another couple of days I contacted the lady to find there was only one left, a tri colour dog. Apart from one all the dogs we’ve had have been tri colour dogs. Me and dad went to see him and there no doubt we’d have picked him anyway!
When we picked him up he made himself at home straight away, and was bowling round like he owned the place within a couple of hours 😂 but has always been gentle around Charlie.
Glad molly is settling in well 🙂

spacekadett absolutely agree. I think most of us who make deep connections with our animals, need a bit of time to grieve when we lose them. Glad your family (we all own a dog together, don’t we) has a new family member that fits in. Animals also sense around those who have slightly different needs or even a vibe, no idea how it works, just thankful it does, so Charlie will always have a safe buddy in the pup. Karma or the universe will often seem to deliver when we need it. After Harley, I knew there would be another cat/dog/hamster or whatever. But my rule was simple. I would not go look for them, they needed to come of their own volition (now those words are open to interpretation) I actually shut the catflap too, as there is a cat from a farm about a mile from here that has a massive range, and he used to come here to terrorise our three at the time. But, when Darren needed to find a home, with winter coming, for,Molly, it was the easiest sale of the day. She certainly fitted my criteria, and I had needed another cat for a few months already but knew the rules. Right now, she is sleeping on one of her fluffy blankets on the couch next to me. Perfect.

A long long day. Spent mainly on creating a report and PowerPoint presentation Had planned on going and doing another round of Duck oil lubrication in, but failed. Like the steel guy, whom I am starting to think is taking the pee, but I could be wrong. In other news, reported in the Galaxy thread, Molly seems to have manage to catch wildlife indoors, despite all doors being shut since she came here. Strange. Woke early today, Came downstairs for a cuppa tea, interestingly, the cat had not come up to join me in bed, or bother me overnight. I like that. Having my tea and watching the news, I was joined by Molly, first grooming, then settling down on me.  My first meeting at at 09.00 By which time she settled on the opposite couch, and stayed there till 4.00pm Crazy.  When Sally popped in at 4,30 the first thing she saw was this....... Keep in mind the doors have all been shut since the cat moved in. Usually over weekends and during the week tbh the back doors onto the garden are always open, so I know mice have come in before to look for whatever they can find.   Now explain this one to me. Working for her dinner? Baffled. |

My old cat brought in a live mouse and dropped it in the kitchen once. Molly’s No 2 kill, despite closed doors since she got here. It was a Shrew, I have just witnessed her catch and bring a second one into the lounge, play with it, and then promptly eat it. I think they moved in via the tumble drier vent through the wall. Looks like we have a good GREAT mouser here. Grizz - quick one - that trailer you were offered but no space, is it available? Looks perfect for repairing whats left of my old trailer! Maybe it's a thank you gift. Well........... Seems we have a killer in our midst. Looks like I will have to sleep with one eye open. Day started off easy enough.  My wok day was busy. Took the Galaxy out over late lunchtime for some food buying. Got back and a note said there was a parcel in the secret stashing place. I thought it was the 8 oz pack of catnip I had bought for Molly. Till I noted the address.  So the cogs started to turn..... Till the tumblers dropped and it turned out to be Nicola my ex who had sent prezzies. Unpacked, she inspected then all.  Then picked up the catnip Christmas penguin and took it to the couch she has chosen to sleep on during the day with me.  Seriously............ This is Kill no 4 for the day, that I know of.  Imagine when I open the back door in two weeks..... It will be a bloodbath |

At least count yourself lucky you don't have a Daisy. She brings mice in still alive, drops them on the floor and then watches as we scrabble around trying to catch the little things before they go under the bed.
Sherman catches stuff outside and generally leaves the remains dead by the back door, having munched on the crunchy bit (head).
Money penny is far more civilised. The only thing we've ever seen her bring back is the carcass of a bird that had probably been dead a week. That was 10 years ago!
