Well, for those who are interested. Had my second redundancy discussion today, again, completely without emotion, delivered from a script. Legal and all that. I have been selected to keep my job, based on performance in 2020. So my mortgage manager will be happy I guess. So I followed it with a coffee and some electrical filling. Old vs New Needed a few little bits. Managed to get the new unit wired up, ready to plug into the other end once done under the truck rear end Body work guys........ Remember the centre caps with the grooved GMC letters? Would this stuff be good to fill the letters and then be flatted back to smooth and then painted over? In order to make this more neutral. Last thing tonight is a pic of mate JB’s newest registration plate he had approved after the last one for his race car “CHITBOX” that he uses to race in the Gambler 500 races. He did have to write an explanation as to what it meant. Happy to copy and paste his explanation if anyone is interested. Almost bedtime.

Good news if you like the job Mrs BC has been told the team is slimming from 4 to 1 so requested for voluntary redundancies in order to avoid compulsory She's be on Furlough since June last year - She's said I'll take redundancy (trouble is I think there have been 4 requests for Voluntary)

Redundancy situations are a terrible dragged out thing to go through. I went through 4 in 24 years in my last job but managed to survive right up to the place ceasing production. It’s weird as you feel happy you’ve survived but gutted for your mates that haven’t.

And while there, I spoke to the manager, and decided to switch from the planned Bridgestone to a set of 4 Avon ZX7 in 235/60 16” 100H rated tyres. I preferred the tread pattern a lot more than the Bridgestone patterns. Weirdly, these are marketed as 4x4 tyres. Just to say I have these on my daily white goods CRV (all be it in 245/45 R19 pimp daddy flavour..) and I have to say for the money you cant fault them and they are particularly good in the wet. The (more expensive) Nexen ditch finders that were on there when i got it were terrible. The highest praise i can give them is that i have just splurged out on a second set of 4...

Good to hear you survived to fight another day grizzRedundancy situations are a terrible dragged out thing to go through. I went through 4 in 24 years in my last job but managed to survive right up to the place ceasing production. It’s weird as you feel happy you’ve survived but gutted for your mates that haven’t. I've got to be one of the few people that managed to do it to myself, and be the only one affected. After a few years I wound up as Assistant Ops Director on Manchester Metrolink and then was moved to be Ops and Maintenance Director for the tender for the 6 new line extension. Because the organisation would change massively, in the new Org Chart I removed the AOD (my) role. I was then shipped to Copenhagen for nearly three years, getting their new metro open (same operating Company as Metrolink at the time). Having had a whale of a time and succeeded in that, I came back to be told they liked my new organisation plan that much, there was no role for me! Oh, and this was announced to me over a, "Let's meet up for a chat," beer when I got home. Ironically, they offered me compulsory redundancy or, I could just go back to Copenhagen, Business Class flights, all found 5* hotel, PA for everything, just as I'd been used to, and just doss around for a bit, with no particular role. I took the redundancy (plus a bit for their handling of it), one, because if they couldn't be bothered to keep me informed about their thinking until after I'd opened the third section of line early and earned them GBP4m in bonus, then I wanted nowt to do with them, two, if I'd gone back to Copenhagen, I'd have been liable for Danish tax (ouch!) and three, I'd already met Queen Margrethe when we opened the Vanløse section. She's a smoker and had nipped out during the official stuff at the same time as me. Lovely lady. Still reckon it was one of the best decisions I made. The redundancy I mean, although sharing a snout with a Queen isn't an everyday occurrence either!

Good news on the job front, sounds like the fear of HR had been put into the manager. Hope you are happy with the outcome, gives time for reflection anyway. Fog light is much better, those old ring ones only ever used to last about a year in good condition anyway. James

Hi Rian, Brilliant news in the job front, (Even if you don't like the job always believed it's easier to get a job if you've already got a job, shows future employers that you're reliable, can get out of your pit in a morning etc,) Trucks looking great too, Nigel

Made them a lot of money, won awards, took top incentive payouts but had had enough of the way the culture was changing. They offered me a weeks leave, free of charge to reconsider, but I declined the leave and reconsideration, they were very fair to me, and I left. Next redundancy was when all of the U.K. and Europe was booted out in one, with no warning, again I was doing well, second nationally, but the Americans who owned the company had screwed up on projections and expectations. Still gutted that ended, it was a good job. Redundancy situations are a terrible dragged out thing to go through. I went through 4 in 24 years in my last job but managed to survive right up to the place ceasing production. It’s weird as you feel happy you’ve survived but gutted for your mates that haven’t. What we do every time, is what separates us. Well, for those who are interested. Had my second redundancy discussion today, again, completely without emotion, delivered from a script. Legal and all that. I have been selected to keep my job, based on performance in 2020. So my mortgage manager will be happy I guess. He did have to write an explanation as to what it meant. Happy to copy and paste his explanation if anyone is interested. Almost bedtime. yes please, I'd love to see the write up that got the plate past a bureaucrat! To Whom it May Concern, I will try to keep the explanation short as to why I chose the acronym for my personalized plate to not impede your business more than necessary. The acronym stands for three men that were great inspirations in my life. Charles O’Rear (CO), Ian Thompson (IT), and Uncle Sherm (US), please read on for further clarification. Charles O’Rear was a mentor early in my carrier, he instilled a business and investment sense that has served me well to date. He encouraged me to live a gratifying life that would be full of activity, friends, and most importantly fellowship. While living life in this manner he instilled the virtue of living below your means and saving heavily for your future. His encouragement has been a part of my life and helped me prepare for a happy and fruitful carrier and retirement to come soon. Ian Thompson was a man that most wouldn’t believe could be a positive role model. I worked with him in my first job at a factory making portable wooden dollies while attending school. He was always willing to show how machines worked and was almost always had a joyous and playful mood. The reason most wouldn’t think of him as a positive role model was because he smoked like a chimney and drank like he didn’t want tomorrow to arrive. These two habits cost him everything in his life the “American Dream” is made of yet he retained his positive outlook on life. From him I learned moderation in vises, keeping a positive outlook, and to be thankful for what I have. Sadly, he passed before I could tell him of his impact on my life. The last is my Uncle Sherm, I worked with him as an adolescent in a variety of disciplines from ranch work, automotive restoration and maintenance, and even gardening to hearten wholesome living. He typically would start his day at 4 am and continue working until dusk only breaking for water and meals. This work ethic and schedule have been instrumental in allowing me to accomplish more tasks than my peers and standout in a tough working environment. It showed me how much can be completed in each day if the non-productive portions of the day are eliminated. I strive to instill these values and habits in my own two young children to encourage happy and healthy growth all of which I’ve learned from these three men. I would ask that you please reconsider my personalized license plate choice based on the above reasoning. I wish all a bountiful and blessed day. Regards,

Good news on the job front Grizz, as previously stated provided you enjoy the role! I've got to be one of the few people that managed to do it to myself, and be the only one affected. I managed that as well George, manoeuvring myself into a position where a change of Terms and Conditions of Employment dictated that a redundancy offer must be made... 22 years service resulted in a lovely package and 2/3rds final salary pension at 55... Couldn’t have worked out better!

Woke this morning and it was a good day, well, the weather had broken overnight. Warmer, snow washed away. Warmer. I did not expect to get much more out of the day...... However. After a busy morning, I quickly finished the wiring on the truck. Hung the fog light. Really too exposed, so I may fold it up and away from harm. But beats the wrecked one that was fitted there. During the day, I had a Messenger pop up from someone I had messaged 31st December. “ The Lady who had owned the truck” had replied to my question below: Hi XXXXXXX, Strange message, possibly. Did you possibly at some time in the past, own a Chevy S10 pickup truck? Thanks. Rian Her responses included the following: Hi Rian, yes I did but I sold it about 2 years ago
I don't usually reply to messages from people I don't know so apologies not responded before
Oh my god its got stripes! It didn't when I sold it. Obviously the guy I sold it too can't have looked after it, those wheels were spotless when I had it. Unfortunately I don't know anything about it's history. The guy we bought it from called Graham but he died quite a few years ago. The best person to talk to is Howard Cox who knew Graham well and may know more about where it came from. Sounds like it's gone to a good home and your giving it lots of tlc!
Of course I'll speak to Howard, there is also a guy called Tom Newman down on Mersea who who has a business repairing building chevys. He also did work on the truck. I only really used it as a spare and just drove it every now and then! So pleased you're putting it back as it was. I was aware of the damage but can't shed any light on it but Howard may know. There's plenty of miles in her yet
My pleasure so sorry I didn't respond earlier and keep me posted would love to hear how you get on with your fact finding and history writing.
You've done amazingly well, yes there was only one key, hated putting petrol in as could never unlock it! Does the cruise control work as that suddenly stopped when I had it or is that one more job you'll be tackling!
So it seems we have a connection with part of the trucks past.

I know what you mean about the fog light, there are similar ones on my TR7 (BL just stuck them on the bottom when it became a legal requirement), mine might well get knocked off now it doesn't need an MOT, other option is what our MX5 has and seems to get away with every year for the MOT which is to use the RH reversing light with a red bulb on it.

Love it when a PO gives you a bit of the back story.
For the rear fog - if you decide to do it again, a high level rear stop light off (say) a 2001 - 6 Mini would tuck under the centre of the bumper and be pretty much invisible.

Like everything on this truck, need to find one, and keep in mind I bought a super sized one already. Hope the PO does bring more info.
