A new retro van was released yesterday, an homage to the Morris J-type. Using a modular chassis, carbon bodywork and all electric drivetrain I hope we see plenty of variants of this filling our roads www.morris-commercial.com/*awaits inevitable backlash about how it's modern and the styling is whack and it's electric, blah blah blah

I like that. I could happily roll one. Any idea on cost?

As far as modern takes on classics go, I'd say that's a pretty good one. I'd happily drive one. Would be a good as a retro business marketing van.

That is superb I think and would happily drive one around. A bare bones version would help lower the price a bit

Fantastic. I had wondered if it was just a CGI proposal but it turns out they've built a prototype. I like it a lot, nice unusual retro-inspired design and a modern electric platform... winner! Interesting that something is being done with these old British brands hoovered up by the Chinese after the MG Rover collapse. I wonder if Nanjing Automotive have plans to launch a Morris-badged electric car in the future? Imagine that, an electric Morris Minor!

Having watched the video on their website I still can't make my mind up if that's a real van or good CGI.
I can see that being popular with more lifestyle orientated businesses (food, flowers, gardeners, interiors etc) in more affluent parts of the country- London, Cheshire etc, but only if they bring that price down a lot. I mean a Transit Connect, which I'd say is a similar size costs less than 20 thousand and the Nissan electric van starts around the same price so it makes no commercial sense.

Having watched the video on their website I still can't make my mind up if that's a real van or good CGI. I think the video is all CGI but in their press release they have pics of the real prototype when they launched it at the Design Museum. I agree on the price... it's a bit eyewatering! I can see them making good coffee / sandwich / Bolivian vegan gluten-free street food trucks, if the price was more competitive.

A camper van variant would be awesome!
Not sure a 200 mile range would get me to the south of France though.

Really nice but have they actually designed something new - not really they just copied a design atheistic and stuck an electric drive platform under it + £60k no right minded business is going stump up twice the amount of money that they can purchase a fully speced petrol / diesel van for - you will of course get the odd sale from the higher end of the market companies that charge 3 times the going rate because they are 'Hip & Trendy' that a certain breed of high end salary earners can afford to use

Agree with the above, it looks great but the commercial van business is pretty hard nosed, it's small, probably hasn't got much payload and 200 miles NEDC is probably nearer 100 miles real world so it will never sell to the volume buyers.
But perhaps they are not interested in the mainstream. If they are only planning to shift 2 or 3 hundred a year there may well be the buyers out there who want an EV as a style statement to grab attention to their business.

Is the (debatable) better carbon footprint of it being electric offset by the bodywork being carbon?
Looks great, f/g body maybe cheaper?

The issue I DO have, however, is a genuine 'classic' having its nuts ripped out of it and turned into an electric powered vehicle and losing its whole character and reason. This creation looks lovely, ridiculously priced but lovely, and not one genuine Morris van was harmed in its making or something.😊

electric sprinter coming next year starts at 50k afaik and has a range under 100 miles.
E crafter starts at £63k, around 100 mile range again.
so I don't think the price is a million miles off, though granted those seem to be rather larger than this Morris appears to be, I just had a brief look and a Diesel Sprinter base price is £42k.
