Wife has put a weeks annual leave in so we were due to head up to North Queensland on Saturday. We got a bit of a flap on earlier in the week about QLD closing the border with NSW due to Covid so left early on Wednesday to get up here early. Good job we did as QLD closed the border to all Sydneysiders on Saturday. It allowed the wife to sort an issue at Cairns hospital too so jobs a good un.
Anyway all that rambling boils down to saw this in the hotel car park last night. Reminds me of the Victor we had when I was a kid.
Not sure if the Irishman is still in Cairns harbour, next to Bad Fishy, the jet boat. He did jet ski charters and took you looking for crocs. Was good fun. He was talking about retiring because his wrists are absolutely shagged from all the battering over the years on a jet ski. Kuranda is worth a visit. Go up through the rainforest by train, and then back down by cable car. Or drive up there, nice windey road through the rain forest. Saw some big snakes in there 🤣🤣
The museum is open. If you are still about on the 29th, that’s his big show of the year with loads of tanks driving around.
I went to Karanda the last time I was up this way many years ago and actually had a snake slither across my feet. Not your usual occurrence when you're used to being in Derbyshire.
With the way the wife is feeling about work we'll be up here for the rest of our time in Oz. Especially with how each state is closing off their borders to each other. NSW had 12 new Covid cases the other day. Woo!
Any of those tanks got some of that quality Saxon steel in? Or even some that I ground? 😂
Looking at cost of flights we might be up here for longer than expected. Cost around $200 per person to get up to Cairns from Sydney. Now that Queensland has closed its borders to NSW the flights back to Sydney are coming up at $6-700 each. Blimey Charlie!
Nice, that kingfisher is stunning ! Truly wild and different place. I loved Cape Tribulation - the mozzies loved me. Surprised I didn't pass out from loss of blood I had so many bites even though I was bathed in deet. Looked like I had a nasty rash but like a farmers tan, only on exposed bits. Hope you and yours didn't suffer that fate. James
Didn't get a single bite jamesd1972. Don't know if it's the time of year or what but doesn't seem to be many mossies around. I did get a few when I went wandering on an abandoned rickety boardwalk around a mango swamp near Cairns.
