Hello! I'm Francisco and I'm new to this forum!
Before I share with you my car and my interests I would like to share a bit of information about myself. I'm a 17 year old boy from Portugal, planning on immigrating to England after I finish my studies. I was basically destined to be a petrolhead since the day I was born - but this passion of mine eventually grown on me once my father told me I could keep the 127 - a car that is in my family since brand new - which I decided that I would restore.
The car was bought by my grandfather in 1978, and even though the 900c was coming out in some weeks my grandad decided to buy this one, thankfully, with an extra, the BWA wheels which were equiped at the dealership in 1978. The registration was, as I said, in 1978 even though the car itself was from 1977. It was the first car he actually bought, the first car my father had, and now it is my first car.
In the late 80s my grandfather decided the car had to go to a scrapyard... but, thankfully, my father just took the car off his hands and took good care of it till I was born. With this car he learned, with old school mechanics, how the mechanics worked and etc. Now he has become one of the most trustworthy mechanics in Portugal.
I got to learn with him, basically everything, which was really, really helpful.
The original idea for this car was to be modified, but as I learned more and more about cars, and got attached to the 127, I eventually thought that was not a good idea, so I'm just doing a well-deserved restoration, keeping most of it's original components.
The car was in a garage since 2008, and as my dad's daily was in a small crash, in 2017, we decided to bring the car back to life to use as his daily while the 124 was getting fixed. The engine was swapped out for a parts car low mileage engine, which helped to bring the car back to life quickly. Before putting the engine in the car we changed some gaskets and serviced it.
Some months after that we took place in a regularity rally, which was not as challenging for the 127 as we were thinking! We only had 2 problems: we couldn't make it through a hill (because the mud was too slippery), and the exhaust fell off when we passed through a small river.
I finnaly started to take this car appart on December 2018, when it finnaly did it's job. The car was disassembled within 2 weeks - but it would, unfortunately have to wait until August of this year to go to the bodywork shop. While it's there I restored some parts and bought others.
And that is basically it! I will keep you updated with my restoration on it's parts and etc.
Cheers, Francisco

What was it like to live with at the time, compared to other moderns on the road? No, it started out as regular 4 speed 903cc. I put the steel 124 wheels on ( wider and more offset ), and eventually it got a Autobianchi A112 Abarth engine and 5 speed gearbox ( needed a little clearanceing to a framerail ) So it had more power and speed, and also now I had more spare parts with me when I was racing, and I could use it to dial in carbs, etc.
I worked that poor little car very hard. ( it handled very well ) And I needed to replace the entire suspension ( for better used, since that was the budget ) every year to get it through the Dutch version of MOT.
I also did several trips to Italy in it to go parts hunting, and lent it to a buddy for vacations ( Italy & Yugoslavia ).
Another buddy painted it for me and we put the stripe on to match my racer.
It was a little light to tow the racer ( I had to be really precise with the tong weight ) but it did everything I asked of it...

A little present arrived for the 127 today! It's a really rare period correct cluster from Veglia. It came up for sale and I just couldn't resist, I had to buy it!

My first car was a '74 127 Special with the rip-roaring 903cc engine. Loved the way it drove but hated the way it rotted.

A week or so has passed and so the work continued! I finished off the steering wheel and left it at the paint shop. Next was the alternator. The alternator needed a bearing change, so I changed the bearings and also gave it a proper clean! Here are some before and after pictures:
... and thank you all for your kind answers! Much appreciated!
Cheers!
