For sale is my Volkswagon Polo breadvan project.
Being a 1982 it's one of the very early mk2 Breadvan shape Polos, being base spec it has some unusual quirks like only having a driver side wing mirror which is a different shape to later ones (trivial I know). Also the front wings don't have holes for side repeaters which later Polo's had.
The car was acquired in completely standard condition, it was in regular use until 2010 with around 93,000 miles when a core plug popped out of the block and killed the original engine. This was removed at which point the shell was completely stripped to ensure it was structurally sound before beginning it's rebuild. The plan, a 1.6 16v AFH +Nitrous sleeper/hill climb toy.
There was NO welding required to the underside * note it's never had an even an advisory for rust on an MOT, the sills, the arches, chassis legs all straight & solid. The shell has been completely undersealed.
The engine bay has been stripped and repainted whilst the front panel was cut out and replaced with a genuine VW panel before all being repainted in the correct factory colour with a few subtle modifications to clean it up and to allow the upgraded master cylinder to be fitted. The paint is a rattle can job not a professional finish but has proven durable.
The exterior has not been touched and retains a somewhat natural patina , the wings/doors/boot are all solid and matching. the bonnet is a genuine VW panel but currently white.
You can find a lot of pictures/details from the build thread on CLUB POLO

Now to be clear, there is NO ENGINE & GEARBOX currently fitted
You are looking at a very sound early mk2 breadvan shell with the following parts fitted. Please note a lot of these parts are brand new, refurbished, repainted:
New brake lines and fuel lines. GT/G40 inline fuel pump, Mk3/Mk2f fuel tank and lift pump -
Mk2 Golf 16v 9" Master Cylinder
256mmMK2 Golf GTI 16v & Cavalier SRI caliper front disc conversion
219mm mk2 Golf GTI 16v rear discs conversion with Mk4 Golf calipers.
Adjustable brake bias valve fitted in the engine bay for front>back control.
New handbrake lines and rear disc adaptors - Not fitted. I have the correct later Polo handbrake tunnel section still to be welded in. I have not cut out the original handbrake mounts.
Weitec 60mm rear /40mm front lowering Springs + 10mm lowering caps on the front on SPAX shocks
G40 rear axle with anti roll bar and polybushed
G40 steering rack with new arms
Polo GT Driveshafts with new CV joints
New lower track control arms (TCA)
New wheel bearings all round
G40 front Anti Roll Bar
G40/GT 5 speed gear shifter
New Genuine VW front slam panel
Basically Polo g40 suspension/steering with mk2 Golf GTI 16v brakes all round.
Also included is all the glass, a blue interior of matching front & rear seats, couple of sets of door cards, dashboard, glove box, fag lighter, ashtray, floor carpet, boot lining, all interior plastics etc. Front headlights, rear lights, grill, bumpers.
The original fuse box and dash wiring loom are all present, the dash will need refitting.
Only negative is the battery tray will need to be repaired - the repair panel is included.
As you can see this car was being built to last and be suitable for a good power upgrade. The car is perfect for any GT/G40, 1.4 AFH/ 1.6 AVY conversion / reshell your existing Polo?
I have a lot of pieces for the 16v AFH/AVY conversions but that can be dealt with when viewing the shell since these parts are being stored at a different garage so you need to do a couple of trips.
Please note you must bring your own 14" wheels and trailer the car home, don't be expecting to tow it on a bar with some 13 inch steels I tried those at the weekend and 13 wont even clear the rear brakes. I am keeping an eye out for some wheels to make the car a roller but it would be very beneficial if you have some 14x6 eg mk2 Golf GTI wheels
The main reason for selling this is I have run out of room & have finally accepted there are too many projects on the go right now. With 7 Cars, 1 guaranteed parking space & "only" 3 garages my fleet no longer works so once this shell has gone I can start emptying another garage and selling my other VW Polo parts that have stacked up over the last 10+ years - there are LOTS of them!!!!
You are welcome to ask as many questions about which parts you are // are not getting, welcome to come and view the car and or i can take additional pictures.
