Hey there Folks, My Name is Max I'm a Mechanic from not so beautiful, when you're actually living there, Berlin, Germany. I'm also editor for the german car blog www.used4.net, which is the excuse why I keep acquiring stupid cars that nobody else wnats.
Although, due to my bad money keeping skills, I strictly drive "old" cars I think this is the first one you can consider retro. Other Cars I currently own are my daily driver e46 320d Touring Edition 33, my 1995 Nissan 200SX S13 (yeah seems retro but 1995, I don't know) and an e36 318ti which I want to get rid off eventhough it is kinda awesome. I have pictures of those if anyone is interested as well. But may I introduce the infamous Mitsubishi Galant e30 to you...
As the keen eyed may have noticed already, since it is missing the "i" in Galant GLS, it is a carbureted 1800 4G engine. Only options are electric mirrors and sunroof, a trailer hitch and central locking. 200k kms on the odometer right now. It is sitting unregistered in my driveway but I'm working out a way to get it on the road asap.
I actually bought this for my Brother as his first car but he is a 18 Year old so he blew all his money and backed out and I'm stuck with it. I did some minor repairs on it for german TÜV and historic license plates like strut bearings up front, weld a little hole in the passenger rear sill and repainted the whole sill, weld the exhaust, replaced the valve cover seal and did some TLC like oil change, spark plugs, ignition timing, valve clearence and fuel filter. It really was a clean car to begin with. Well beside the fact that one camshaft retainer was completely loose, why the engine made rod knock noises It then got a polish and wax and I'm trying to sell it right now.
But you know how it is... no buyer in sight so I just got hold of some OEM 15 inch turbine alloy wheels and window visors
The car is starting to grow on me more and more.
You don't see many of them anymore and if it isn't a GTi or even a VR4 most people don't see the point on keeping them alive.

And thanks for posting up.
You may as well add the other cars in your stable and of course stories from your blog, most here would be interested, even the lurkers who do not take the time to reply.
You can edit your title on an ongoing basis too in the first post, to show what else is popping up.
I like the car, had a similar shaped Corolla sedan years ago, maybe 97-ish, but suspect this is a size up on that car.
I liked the rounded shape of them, though at the time I did not, as the predecessors were so wedge in shape.
At 200k miles, it looks to be well looked after though.
And like my Berlingo, some cars grow on you.

There is a publication in the UK called Classic Car Weekly and they are running one of these at the moment, albeit a GLSi, trying to get it to 250k miles, I think it is currently on 230k ish. The articles about it usually seem to have good things to say. These cars seem like well built machines and you just don't see them anymore, good work!

I visited a scrap yard to 'liberate' 4x of those exact steel wheels from the same model.... .... as they had excellent tyres and went straight onto my Proton 1.5MPi Lovely, solid motor there. OVIMOR

So here is my S13. I've owned this thing since 2007 and we have what you would call an on/off relationship. But I love it...
Then there is my Girlfriends Audi 80 aka the Pasadena 80. This thing had really really bad rust issues in the trunk due to a semi professional accident repair. Started repairing it, got a donor car, cut both cars to bits and sold the Pasadena 80 last weekend. With 2 little kids it was to big of a project for me to handle in the next few years and I had to pay for it just sitting around. Sad but it is better that way *'80s romantical music in the distance*
In my initial Post I owned a 1994 e36 318ti with factory LSD. Wanted to strip it and go racing. Did it. Had a blast. But again, with a 4 year old and a 3 month Baby Boy I don't think I will have time for this... So it also went to a new owner a few weeks ago.
I also did own two BMW e30s, an e34 525i, which was really cool), a w124 Mercedes, 2 Nissan Micras K11 (which I still love) and since most of you guys are british: my first car was a 1996 Rover 416 Si . I gave this away last year after it sat for years but I had to gave in, that I wouldn't fix it any time soon. Still miss it from time to time.
I can try to find some pics of all these cars, if there is interest in sh*tty cars
There are no news for the Galant right now. I'm trying to insure it but insurance companies annoy me with their sh*t. They want a valuation for a 2000 Euro car and I'm not willing to pay 150 Euros to get one

Had one of these about 20 yrs ago. Good car, couldn't fault it mechanically and the body work was pretty good. Green with a grey interior.
Drove really nice and much better than the Cavalier I had before it or the Mondeo I had later. Both similar cars.
I do vividly remember knocking a kid down in the street one day when he ran out in front of me, little sh1t jumped up and continued to the other side of the road - frightened me half to death though.
Got offered more than I paid a while later and off it went.

So no real buying interest in this pile, what do you do during a pandemic? You register a car you don't really need. Should come back next week so I can drive it around. This has the positive side effect, that I can put it on my lift and change the timing and balancing shaft belts and tensioners which I already bought. And just for the kicks I put some stickers and cheap window visors on it. I also got hold of a pretty rough Momo wood steering wheel which I'll be trying to bring back to life and put it on this grampa sled.

Sooooo To give you an idea of the wheels I already got, here is a picture of them, stolen from the internet:
And since I have the 15 Inch alloys off my 318ti wrapped in Nankang NS2R still laying around I kept thinking about putting semi slicks on a 86 horsepower car. Nothing is cheaper than stuff you already have laying around.
The "problem" is, The original tire dimensions on this wheels would be 195/60R15 and the Nankangs are 195/50R15 . This results in a 20 mm drop in ride height. And, let's be honest, sooner or later I will put springs on the car to get it even lower. The springs you can get are H&R 40mm which comes to a whopping 60 mm drop if I out the Nankangs on the wheels... me likey. I measured it. The lowest part of the car will have roughly 10 cm clearence to the road...
Change my mind!
I put the BMW wheels in front of the car and it looks the shyte in my opinion!
Abother thing I did was buying an old wooden Momo steering wheel off ebay for the price of two happy meals. Saying it's rough would be an understatement but I got a few minutes of kids free time today and started restoring it anyway.

Great stuff, I had a '89 GTi and would I buy another? Damn right I would, I only really got rid of it as I realise now what was wrong with it was either a stuck open thermostat or a faulty air meter, probably both but at the time I didn't know much about engines lol Did have a look at a 4wd/4ws model afterwards but was a 5 door and I think the saloon looks way better. Regret selling it now and had a '88 Lancer before that, Mitsubishi's of this age were amazing and will get something similar in time, Colt, Galant, Lancer, Sigma are all great, just so Japanese and of their time

On with with the catch up: The 4 Spoke wooden steering wheel got some lovin and started to look great:
But meanwhile I got hold of a 3 spoke VL35 by Momo for a very reasonable price and I tried that also:
I drove with the 4 spoke for a while, since I think it suits the car better but unfortunately it cracked again and I'm too lazy to fix it at the moment so the 3 spoke it is for now.
Meanwhile the car got registered and I hit the road with it. But not for too long
But I let the pics do the talking.
After a trip to the gas station around the corner the front brakes locked up and I had to rebuild the whole shebang...
Pistons, seals, pads and rotors... you know the drill.
Now with insane stopping power I finally adressed the aesthetics a bit and got the wheels painted and wrapped in new Pirelli black baloons.
Even before that I did replace the Timing belts and the water pump but I have no pictures of the process. Car drives alright exept for gear changes, which were a bit "loose".
A buddy made some brass bushes and now it is way better but still not perfect. There will be some more investigating on that. That same mate drove the car for 2500 km to the Bodensee and back with no issues at all. 28 mpg at 150 km/h whenever possible wasn't too shabby either.
That's it for now.
I still want to sell it ASAP since I want to dump the money on my S13 but I guess I will still overhaul some stuff on the Galant before that happens.

I actually bought a brochure via eBay. No one seems to want them so I got it for 3 Euros including shipment But I'd like to see which one you got.
Car is driving alright and parks even alrighter.
The rear wheel bearings need doing, tho. Just orderd them.

A lot happened... I changed the rear wheel bearings and also did revise most of the ignition system.
I wouldn't say it drove like new but a lot better than before. I think the carb could do with a refurb.
Made a pretty good deal on a OEM Mitsubishi roof rack.
And from then on, smooth sailing as an enjoyable family retro ride for the weekends.
I put the S13's Rays VR-X10 on it for a pic and giggles.
But in the end of last October I finally managed to settle a deal with my mate who had driven more miles on the car in 2020 than I did. So a last drive to my childhood neighbourhood was done and I will fondly remember this Oslo green machine.
Actually I see it on a regular basis and can pretty much drive it whenever I want. That's a win in my book.
Which leaves me with only 3 cars left in the fleet. My S13 will be back on the road next tuesday after I spent some time and money on that over the last off-season.
Maybe I will find some time to start a threat on that as well as I have it for 13 years now, so there are some stories to tell...
