WPL, JJRC and HengLong R/C Truck thread

I added a few more decals onto the sheet I printed yesterday. The C34-1 is now owned by a So-Cal vineyard.

More 3DP fun, most of the sand boards available liable are the modern big chunky orange GRP things. I liked the older style pressed aluminium ones. There were a few around but seemed expensive and were 1/10 scale. So an evening doing a drawing last night and a print this afternoon I had my own.

I've taken a leaf out of markbognor's book and made up some military looking wheels for the MN tyres. Cutting the rear bead off and gluing it to WPL V2 wheels gives a good floatation tyre and wheel combo.



Except I had nothing to fit them to. But I was on the WPL website buying some winches for the wrecker, and, err, a B24 MAY have gone into the basket too. Whoops.

Been working away slowly. Package arrived from WPL, so set about having a messabout with the winches.

Wired with one shared pole. The WPL board with the winch control has output for one winch/one motor. I previously had an assembly using an old 130 gearbox and motor combo with a dual drum, so it pulled both cables at once. The biggest issue with that was that depending on how the drums spooled, you would usually end up with one tight, one loose cable which was frustrating as the boom would often break free and swing about when driving. I plan on splitting one output feed into two, via a pair of miniature toggle switches, to turn the left or right winch on or off, to allow each winch independent operation. Added bonus is the switches will look like the hydraulic winch controls too which is nice. Plan is to mount these on the toolbox next to the spare wheel.



Fitted and strung with the whitemetal hooks from it's previous incarnation.







And with the cab and wheel holder/tool box.



I made up the exhaust as well, secured with a threaded collar on the outside of the body and a nut inside so if it rolls/gets knocked it just swivels over rather than breaks off. It's made, again, from brake pipe with a section split open and soldered over the top.



I also had a play with the wheels on the ZIL. The prints were lovely but something about them just didn't work, they were over scale and a higher offset so stuck out too much. So using the parts from the wheel kit and some spares I made something that I was a lot happier with.

Whoops. Wasn't going to do anything with this yet but I couldn't resist throwing it on some 'junk' axles to try the wheels.

Impressed with the latest KM kits too, came with not 4, not 5 but 8 leaf springs. LOTS of spares.

Well after a good few hours today, I finally have my two rock crawlers back together and working!

The MN99 has new upgraded axles, replaced steering servo and the C34 has new axles internals cobbled together from all the bits I have amassed! 

Hoping for some good weather at the weekend to take them out for testing. 

I'm getting close to launching my D90 at the wall.
Fitted the Hobbywing ESC rich recommend and the little bar steward still doesn't work.
Well it does a bit.
Red light on ESC, servo will move right, but not left and no forward or reverse action whatsoever.
Wtf am I doing wrong?

Another WPL joins the fleet . Bought a B16k off eBay that had been built but never run, I had a spare wpl receiver/controller in stock. Bit of paint and accessories and we have a truck for the Gingerman Mining Company that is part of our garden trail .

Hmmm, I don't have a spare TX RX, and no spare cash to get another one. This will have to go on hold until I get my actual car and the nitro build sorted. God knows when that will be cos I need/ want quite a bit of stuff for my real car.
I thought this was going to be a nice easy build. How wrong can you get.
