So I accompanied my sister and brother in law to view a house they are thinking of buying. In the garden is an LS400. Probably like many here I have an auto function that involves no brain engagement…… see an old car, say to the owner “I’ll give you £100 for it” even if I have no use or plan for it (it has to be worth that even if I weigh it in right?). Well the owners said yes. So subject to cash changing hands I’m the owner of an LS400, date registered 6 October 1995, that has been sat for approx 4 years. Mileage 218,901. If I proceed the general idea is. See if it will start and move where it is, see how bad it is, maybe run it for a while, maybe just take the engine out and keep it for a future as yet unknown project, maybe sell it on. Last MOT So, on these engines, is 200,000 a lot or "just warn in" in general? Also I have more experience with diesel engines, I'm guessing trying to start it on the petrol that is most likely in the tank isn't going to be an overly good move. Initially I'm thinking jerry can up front. Where are the fuel pumps on these? Thanks in advance. Rob

Front 4 pots are worth 100 so you can't go wrong with it the mate.

Fuel pump is inside the tank. Front 4 pot callipers are worth money, but none of mine have had them fitted, you might be lucky. Only other thing worth having is the engine. It could just be early enough to be the thicker con rod one. Check the plug leads for a date. If you take the engine out, be sure to get all the wiring plugs for the ECU. One usually stays with the car side of the wiring loom. Other than that, well done. The engines are going up in value so well worth your punt at £100.

Great find! There are online manuals to re use the factory ECU so you can run them in anything.

Square fuel rail should indicate the fabled big rod engine 😎. 200;000 miles is normal Shouldn’t give any issues in recommissioning Consider timing belt 👍

UFC20's had the 4 pot fronts, that's a UFC10 so not sure it had those. If you plan to use the engine, leads caps arms will be a must, plus do the plugs. But as above 200k is fine.

I very much doubt that will have 4 pot front callipers. They came in later than that. Like it's been said that's your hundred quid back there if it has (il have them for 100 quid if you break it)
1995 is a wierd year for them. Not new enough to be a vvti, not early enough to be the thick rod like I'm building myself at minute. Officially thick rods ended in 94/95 but it depends on when it was built/registered..
You definitely won't lose money on it at that tho

Break it and sell the engine to Rusted PistonsHe has just had an unfortunate mishap with his LS400. I do really like these, an LPG one would be wonderful.
