Liking this, always had a thing for mk2s. When i was young and impressionable all the local boy racers had mk2s, normally in primer with a rubber boot lid spoiler. Always racing round the local ring roads. My step dads friends used to rally them so there was always one at our house waiting to be stripped out, or if i wasnt at school i was hanging around his friends garage 'helping' with his rally cars. I am from essex though, kind of hard to avoid mk2 escorts if you grew up there in the 80s. I'm amazed ive never owned one! Came close to a yellow rs2000 but couldnt afford the insurance š I got to drive the race cars when i was old enough though so not all was lost š
Anyhow, ill keep watching it come together.

1st shell was hiding a lot of horrors there!
You going to sell it on or build it up at a later date?
New one is going to be a beast when its done!

Aside from the car, that's a lovely tidy workshop you have! VERY jealous of the ramp.

Nothing really exciting to update you guys with, been adding some more Fuel Line fittings for the bulk head, got the clutch pipe in and bled and pulled it forward under its own steam. Only cool thing to take a photo of is the Wilwood brakes for the front turned up today. Good news, they look epic. Bad news, they don't fit my wheels!

I had the same problem, with my wildwoods, any excuse for more wheels.

My Statement of the Obvious: Buying that better shell was a very good move. Cool car. John

I do like a MK2 essy. I've had four, a 2 door popular plus was my first car, a 4 door popular, a really bad rs 2k rep that I swapped the 4 door for cos it had nice recaros in it and the best one I ever had was a really mint condition 1600 sport, that I put the really nice recaros in. Sold it for Ā£500 still in mint nick with tax and test. Not long after that the prices went rapidly upwards. I'm keen to see how yours progresses and how it goes with the turbo motor in it. Keep up the great work.

Nice build sir. General consensus is however that there is zero point using an anti_dive kit on a road car. Massive debate on it years ago on a Ford website! Nice choice of engine too. Hope you find a way to keep it on 13's

Ive ordered wheels, turns out inner diameter of a Superlite is smaller than most 13 inch wheels! :/

This is proper. And will upset the purists so better still haha! Love an old escort and having done several mx5 turbos I know how well they go. This should be a lovely combination.

Quick tip. Peugeot 405 COUPE front calipers are alloy 4 pots, fit with a little filing and are a LOT cheaper than Wilwoods. Cool build. Is the Mazda an 1800 or 2.0L? Is the box the Mx5 or will it be an RX7 or ?? Thanks.

Cheers guys, I'm also following your build mat88 which is cool AF. I honestly don't know why more people don't use MX5 Engine/Gearbox. Its cheap, easy to install and takes three wires connecting to get it running! Its more a case of the inner diametre of the super lights being 270mm instead of 300mm like the Minilites ive ordered. I'm using an MX5 5 Speed Gearbox. Progress may stall for this weekend as doing some work in the workshop to free up the work bay this car is sat in lol!

Excuse the diversion (but you did ask) - what do you need to do to the Mazda lump to add boost and power - is it simply bolt on a turbo, add more fuel and watch the numbers rise well above 200 horses?
(Just happen to have a Mk1 1.8 Engine and box sat around..)

Nothing really exciting to post, finished off all the fab work, little bits of welding work which needed doing. Stripped car apart, Raptor Painted underside of it and sent it off for paint! Its gone to PARC Garage in Pontypridd who have a massive history with MK2 Escorts so I know its in good hands Oh yea.. 27th December Classic Ford is out and my ugly mug will be in it
