Have you ever treated your motor to something nice, only for it to slap you in the face?
I just fitted some nice new tyres to the Herald. I jump in it and drive it out of the workshop but noticed the handbrake was... sketchy all of a sudden.
Forgot all about it and left work a few hours later. Oh dear, no brakes! Back at home, get it up in the air and find the threads on the rear adjusters have stripped for some reason.
Most odd, but more to the point... what an ungrateful #@$#@%!
I'm meant to be going away in it straight from work on Friday. I guess I'm not going to speak to it for a while and have a dirty weekend away in the Acclaim of shame instead. That'll learn it!

Mine do this on a regular basis, i tend to ignore faults and they run better, the last time i serviced the p38 electronic timebomb it locked me out and had to be recovered to a LR specialist to be told i wasn't a twoccer!

This has happened all My car owning life for the past 35 years It all part of our great hobby , at least thatโs what I tell myself when something goes horribly wrong, which to be fair hasnโt happened for a while with any of our fleet...cross fingers!......but it usually turns out very satisfying to fix another fault , or get one of your good mates on the phone to help sort the problem Itโs better then decorating or going to the outlaws for Sunday dinner!

The only problem I have is if I give them a good wash/wax/polish its like a magnet to other road users that cant drive and normally results in some panel damage!!
Got the problem sorted now though I don't bother with the wash/wax/polish bit any more!!

There was a guy in the 1100 club who nicknamed his car โYBโ which he explained stood for โyou b@stardโ , ever since Iโve been able to imagine him sat turning the key to no avail, rounding bolt heads off etc etc and then calling out its name ๐๐

I have a similar problem with my little Collection, however it is the other way round.
If I spend some time, money and effort on one car it usually follows that another one will get jealous and throw something.
Case in point, I recently spent the day detailing one car when it was parked in front of my XJ40.
Two days later a high pressure PAS pipe decides to 'undo' itself mysteriously, dumping all the PAS fluid on the road and all over the underneath of the car.
There are many other examples, but this is the most recent!

"ever since you..." probably covers most of this xD
One of my previous mk2 golfs had just had its front discs and pads done only for the rear cylinders to let go on the way home. It's just all or nothing in my case I think.

I'm using my van instead of the herald. Today I had to replace an injector leak-off hose when it decided to do it's intended purpose, but release the diesel outside of itself and all over the engine! ๐

My problem has always been people crashing into me just after I've "finished" the car.

Aaaaah, y'see. That's where you're going wrong. I love old Italian cars and have found that utterly abusing them is the best way to make them behave. I had a mate who would regularly kick his Maserati when it wouldn't start. It seemed to fix the electrics every time!

Certainly on modern car emissions systems and drivetrains it's better to thrash them everywhere than potter about "looking after" them.
