Engine bay looks pretty good anyway? Yeah it looks "alright".. tbf it's still wet in that pic and looks shinier than it is. the driver's side is pretty good. Passenger side is pretty scratched but I think rather than try paint the whole thing I'm just gonna touch it up n polish it. Cheers

Maybe cheat and just coat the duller areas with some clearcoat for shine. Any overspray will be clear so not a worry

So today wasnt going to be a good day.. had a job in Birmingham and with best will in world it's 4 hour round trip before I've done any work or got stuck in traffic. But I realllllly wanted to do some car. So sacrificed sleep and set off at silly o'clock and! And my master plan worked since I was back in Sheffield for just after dinner with nowt else on.. car time it is then!!! 😉 (Even my boss was surprised I was back haha) So the car! One thing I wanted to do was a bit of heat protection for the fuel pipes.. where they run down the bulkhead there a bit close to the front pipe on the exhaust.. were not talkin touching or owt. But a couple inch away. And you can't get at them with the engine in. Grabbed some of that heatproof sheethin stuff that velcros round pipes. Also had a rummage in my random spares and found some of that dimpled sheet stuff they put on bulkheads of modern cars (pulled off a random scrap car last time I went to scrap yard).. Bit of fiddling couple of bolt holes. Happy days.. hoses are protected and pinned back against the bulkhead! (Looks a bit crinkly but smoothed it all out once I was happy).. Now what to do next. Well I'd run out of excuses.. I also didn't take any pics as I was trying to guide it in (ooh err 🤣) while my boss drove the forklift and I tried to be in 4 places at once).. what am I waffling about I hear you say?!?!?! She's in!! I've given the bay a quick spruce up. And the bits that are visible and scratched will be touched up with a fine brush when it's done. Cus I'm not wasting my life stripping the bay now! Whilst I was on a roll got the engine bolted down properly. Got the gearbox mount on. And got the prop back in! After that I ran out of time, and tbh I was getting on for being a bit tired from my silly o'clock start! It won't be "finished" tomorrow.. but work depending I may see if it will make some noise 🤷. I've a list aslong as my arm of stuff I want to do but I think a quick 10 second run from the fresh V8 may be the boost I need to get it done! Oh and the oversprayed oil filter has gone in bin (and as expected I scraped it fitting it haha) Fingers crossed for more soon. Cheers

Looks like you did a good job guiding that in, I'm sure you'll have it buttoned up in no Time, ready to enjoy in the spring. Nick

I've ended up with one tiny 5mm scuff on the back of one cam cover.. considered we normally chuck big diesels in plant with the forklift and a scaff bar for guidance I'd call that a result 🤣 And thats the plan. Get it finished and buttoned up in time for weather pickin up next year!

So today started well.. but sadly not on a photographic front.. managed to get most of the underside buttoned up. Multiple earth's on the block fresh oil and filter in. Also got the slave cylinder back in and working and was generally making good progress. That good I pretty much forgot to photo what I was doing 🤣🤣 here's the couple I did remember tho.. Got all the loom connected up top. Fuel lines on and the bare minimum amount of "stuff" connected to see if it would make loud sounds.. Grabbed the battery off the charger and connected that. Turned the key to ignition position and no magic smoke came out.. so far so good. Whipped the oil feed off the turbo and with the fuel pump disconnected cranked it to make sure I'd got oil coming through. Sure enough I had and eventually oil pressure light went out on. Considering everything was dry inside this was good indeed. This is sadly where story goes a bit tits up (would it be one of mine if it didn't).. Reconnected the fuel pump. Turned key to ignition for the the pump to prime. A moment of ecstasy as it all looked dry before fuel started leaking out of the feed side rail! Oh cock!! Ignition off towels out mopped it up and disconnected battery and walked away.. the pump is 340lph and shifts some fuel when it wants, last thing I needed was a petrol based disaster under bonnet! Said story then went wronger. (I'm sure that's not proper English haha).. on my quest for a frugal daily for the Mrs to keep my bank balance and Greta happy... Whilst browsing the deepest darkest internet's stumbled across the late 2000s Saab 9-3. Think they look a bit different than the usual Mondeo and stuff (still not ruling a moondog out).. I know they have the fiat 1.9 engine in. I know they hav swirl flap problems. But I don't think it matters what you buy with modern curse word they all have problems.. Found what appeared to be a nice one top side of Leeds. Long story short got there. Both rear arches were absolutely rotten, driver's seat hanging, pads and discs nakerd, at least 3 tyres nakerd. And one tyre flat! All this on a "mint car mate".... Needless to say I walked away without even hearing it run and wasted 3 hours of my life.. I hate people! Back at work wanted to try and see if it was fuel tight... Nipped the fuel damper down a bit more then turned ignition on.. bone dry!!! Happy days.. Nowt left excuse wise only one thing left. Turn the key and pray!... To say I'm happy is an understatement.. I've invested so much time and money into this engine for it to start and run like that honestly I was gobsmacked!! Nearly had a little cry 😂😂
Called it a day after that. Let's not pretend it's done it's not. But it's well on its way and sounds absolutely bang on. Quiet. On all 8 and smooth! Just the way it should be!! Honestly I never thought it would get to this stage again!!
Anyways that's all for now. I know I've got real work on tomorrow. And I still need to find a daily... But not tonight. Tonight is pizza and beer night!!!
Cheers!

A like for everything but the “Orange Can of Death”….. should last the running in period tho…
Sounds well - good work - even the boss (I assume?) looked impressed 🙂

Top work mate Makes me more than a bit envious! From what I've read on American V8 forums they all hate the Fram filter and blame it for all kinds of oil problems

That is absolutley awesome and it sounds amazing, i've always liked the IS200 and I looked at one when it was 5 years old but went for a Jaguar S-Type instead (big mistake on that particular car as it was massivly unreliable!).
Well done and looking forward to seeing the results when you have it on the dyno again :-)

As above, they have a very bad name for not filtering properly/collapsing inside and the oil goes unfiltered through the pressure relief hole. Maybe the European versions are better but I doubt it & personally would not risk it.
It will be fine for running in but I'd go for a better make for longer term usage.
