Well set off to Birmingham at what seemed like the middle of the night. Had a good run there and only the broken trucks I knew about were broken so no surprises which was nice! Because id set off so early I was back in Sheffield just after dinner, meaning I had an hour spare to play cars when I'd finished. Started by chuckin the back wheels on just so I could take the car off the jack and stands and use them on the front.. ride height is a smidge high but I'm not adjusting anything til it's settled and the box is back in. Least I know everything is free and can be adjusted easily now it's on the car.. With that set about sorting the fronts.. got front up, wheel off shock unbolted both ends and no amount of wiggling would get the shock out. Either needed spring compressors (which I don't have and can't get from my mate due to Rona/lockdown/life) or needed some more clearance.. figured whipping anti roll bar off would help but unfortunately the little Allen key to stop them spinning turned to dust, the flats on the back weren't much better and rounded straight off and tbh the dust boots weren't looking very clever! Only one thing for it and save messing, grinder came out and drop link was off haha. Last time I bought any normal car drop links they were about a fiver.. unfortunately these aren't .. I normally use euros as a guide knowing I can buy stuff 30/40% cheaper elsewhere.. they wanted 35 quid a drop link. Even with "discount"... Cock! Few phone calls later and I've got them down to 14 quid each plus vat. Not brilliant but not end of world. Why is it if someone says a fun part is 300 quid you don't bat an eyelid, but a drop link the car actaully needs at 30 quid a pair hurts anyways. Grabbed them on way round home. Got a pair so I can do both tomorrow. Managed to get one coilover in and bolted up. So I've just the passenger side to do tomorrow. Also.... Had a few people message about the car via YouTube. Asking about the car and stuff. I've sent them the way of this forum before now but figured id do a quick vid. I've never recorded owt with my voice on before now, and can honestly say I didn't like it haha. If your reading this far chances are you know all about the car. But here's said video anyways (I'm not as simple as my voice makes me sound least I hope I'm not) haha
Fingers crossed il chuck the passenger side coilover in tomorrow between jobs and get the new droplinks in too.. could really do with my clutch back tbh.
Cheers

Managed to sneak an hour this afternoon.. didn't get much done, but they all seem to be adding up.. I'm also eternally grateful for not having to do it in the rain!! Got the remnants of broken drop link off. And before I even bothered messing with the passenger side made it quick release with the grinder Didn't get any pics of the job on passenger side but it's same as drivers side except I didn't have any space to work since the cars up against the parts washer and I can't move it I've reset the coilovers back to where they were before I stripped them to clean and lube them. But the fact they came off a drag car, combined with my RCAs that drop it by another 15mm means were low. Proper low infact... Too low realistically.. (unless you own a VW with wonky wheels haha) Didn't get chance to stick ARB back on but tbh I just wanted wheels back on so I could get it off the jack since it didn't feel particularly stable Will hopefully stick the ARB back in tomorrow and then can think about having a play with ride height both front and back. Wasn't going to bother til box was in and I could drive it but as it is I'd say its undrivable anyways.. and I've still not heard from CG (they did warn me they were busy)... Fingers crossed my tee nuts turn up tomorrow and I can finish back bumper properly.. Cheers

That's pretty much what I was thinking.. down 30 ish on the back, up 20 ish on the front.. and see how it looks when it's been driven... Least it's all free and easy to adjust now. As for paint on the kit, it's all going black. I've got a set of sideskirts to butcher/modify/fit to tie front and back together. Least I will have when I can collect them... But I'm not even attempting paint work til it gets a good few degrees warmer (or I find a cheap/decent) bodyshop to blow em over for me. (I know theres no such thing as cheap/decent when it comes to bodywork.. but I can dream) haha

If I was going to get it painted anyway I think I couldn’t resist breaking out the masking tape and rattle cans. Was in Sheff last weekend, uni run. Up and down the parkway flat out in the wife’s aygo. Well, ok, 50 then.
If ever there was a road in this country that needed re-surfacing it would have to be the top of the parkway !

Il be honest I'm proper picky about paint. I've painted stuff in the past (including my mini) and got better finish than some so called bodyshops. Some of the work I see get taken into my dad's garage I'd be ashamed to turn out of my garden shed never mind an actual bodyshop... So unless I pay a grand plus for the paintwork chances are il find flaws in it and then il he mad I didn't do it myself haha. It's the space/cleanness/warmth il struggle with. That being said everything will unbolt off the car so I can do it panel by panel. I've also seen some rather good results with some direct gloss colour matched aerosols that a company who advertise on faceache sell. There also reasonably priced unlike a lot of the colour match cans you can buy.. il have a think and see what happens when weather improves and temperature stays above freezing for more than a day.. And you don't have to tell me about the parkway. Infact 98% of the roads in Sheffield are the same haha. I live out at thurcroft and the lanes round here that are only 1 car wide and get used 3 times a day are in better condition than most of Sheffield's roads.

Should also say I'm in no way a proffesional painter or being big headed.. I was tought by my dad a long time ago and then learnt as I went doing race bikes, cars etc.. but if I pay 500 quid for a cheap job doing and it's naff, il be angry... If I spend hundred quid on some direct gloss or a load of colour match cans (I've got plenty of high build and stuff already) and it's not perfect. Least I can sleep easy at night knowing it's not cost "much" I did full glass out respray on my old MK1 golf, and it was bang on. Better than factory maybe. I also gave one of my old mx5s a blow over which turned out bang on aswell (until wind blew dust into the laquer and I swore a lot).. Wel see how I'm feeling come paint time. Cheers

They all seem to rave about it, painting there "drift weapons" in some lairy colour just before they fit a BGW and a welded diff haha. Do they do colour match tho cus only the kit will be being painted? Unless I go mental and do the whole car in that primer grey that's fashionable at minute 🤣

I went to university at Hallam 2005-2009. I had cars on coilovers. Two facts; 1) that road was always a flat out test 2) it was always right as hell

And you don't have to tell me about the parkway. Infact 98% of the roads in Sheffield are the same haha. When I left Sheffield and moved to the States I naively thought "well, the roads can't be worse where I'm going". Oh how wrong I was Richmond, Virginia has some terrible roads with pot holes you could lose a Ford F350 in! Also, the camber on the roads along with steep driveways are a nightmare!

If you fancied a cheap colour change all over, then yea, Montana White. Shiny. Aforementioned 121. Anyway, good work on the car dude. Been lurking, looks excellent and I’m a big fan of the touring car kit. Stick at it

I've read your 121 thread, turned out spot on for what it is and the colour really suits it!
