Just here checking in again.. managed to get another couple hour done tonight (literally just come in house). Been flat out at work and as much as I wasn't particularly feeling going out into the cold and dark I really wanted to get the other arch on so it didn't look wonky. Since we all like a photo and a guide 🙂 here's some of me fitting a slightly questionable fitting rear arch haha. Start by offering said arch up to body and marking centres of many holes.... Then drilling pilots followed by alarmingly big holes in lots of bodywork.. Daub plenty of anti rust anti corrosion black paint in the holes (using one of my daughter's paint brushes, doesn't have to be my daughter's your children's paintbrushes will do too) followed by a rivnut Rinse and repeat until there's many holes and many rivnuts down the wing and door.. offer up questionable fitting rear arch. Swear, open holes out in arch (not originally drilled by me) try again. Repeat. Fall over the extension lead to the lamp your working with, lose bolts under car and kick the Allen key bit into the gravel on the front garden to be lost forever.. After a while. Your left with an arch that fits (other than heads of bolts are at a different angle to the arch).. step back admire your handwork whilst muttering summat about doing no more work in the dark on the drive!! Not too shabby. If I do say so myself haha.. Feeling full of enthusiasm for life decided to retreat to the garage and attempt a bit of painting... plus it's actually frosty outside and I'm kinda sick of it haha. With callipers ready to go. Sloshed a bit of paint around them. Now I'm not saying there bright. But I reckon youl need sunglasses when the sun hits them haha There not perfect but there more than presentable, just need the compulsory brembo stickers on them now. I mean not wanting to blow my own Trumpet.. but how good do they look haha Whilst they cure fully over the next few days I've plenty of other stuff to get on with... I may have a night off it tomorrow. Or I may attempt to fit the heater matrix in the dark whilst I cut my knuckles and break stuff whilst moaning about working in dark and cold... tbf once it's in I can refill the coolant and may even get to take it for a blast on Sunday... But chances are that won't happen and wel be having this same conversation same time next week haha. Anyways. More soon. Hope my handy guide is useful. I'm happy to help Cheers

This is looking really good .
From the pics , if it was mine , think I’d leave the standard rear bumper on . Looks really wide & kinda J race car being able to see the rear tyres .
But obviously it isn’t mine (unfortunately) .

But the back of the car looks sorta lost without it.. grabbed another couple pics in light when I got in today and it really needs summat to bring it all together. maybe even a big daft spoiler would do it. But wel see. And it could be yours, everything has a price... But even at a pound an hour, this is currently valued at 1 billion pounds 🤣🤣🤣

Well finally a bit of an update. Been a bit quiet since I'm mental busy with moving units at work and had a lot on at home. But been doing bits were I can.. First job is one I've been putting off for an age. The heater matrix... After the never ending rebuild saga I've reached the stage where it needs coolant back in. But I don't want to bleed it twice if possible so wanted to get my new second hand heater matrix fitted. Problem being it's burried in back of dash. Access is from the drivers side so you have the pedals and column in way. And did I mention.. I'm working in dark with a head torch and a sad lamp 😂😂.. here's where it lives.. Yeah looks fun doesn't it.. next problem and one that's a bit of an oversight. You can't refit a used matrix, with the pipes in place. The hard pipes that go through the bulkhead are too long to slide the matrix into the hole where it lives then pivot them through the bulkhead.. and the pipes are fitted to the Matrix with a wierd one time crimp type arrangement, that's part of the ally matrix itself.. (still following).. Leaves you with two options, either chop the pipes down near the matrix then put a rubber joiner in to reconnect them. Or try and undo the one time crimp things, fit the matrix, fit the pipes then recrimp them once it's all on situ. Since I wasn't happy with how tight the pipes were in the matrix (some one has already removed it from a breaker and I think just ragged it out ) I chose to do the second option. And as much as getting the pipes through the holes up hear wasn't particularly easy. I'm confident it wont leak now it's back together (plus the wipe of instant gasket I put on the pipes for added security) With that in place could turn my attention to under the bonnet. Needed some hoses to connect the heater pipes to the engine. Both the feed and return come off the rear water bridge. And again not fun to get to. Quick rummage in my random pipes selection and I've ended up with an original is200 heater hose. And a 1uz heater hose. 16mm Id (just so I can find that if I ever need to know haha).. they look like they should work just fine. And finally. Coolant system is back together! Refilled it with some fresh pink coolant and burped it best I can without it running. Although the rads now higher than it was before, the highest water way in engine is still higher. So still filling it through the patent pending high level funnel mentioned an age back.. but it's all dry and no puddles which is nice. Full of enthusiasm from my success tried to fit my new heater control panel. I say fit I mean tie wrap it in place where the old one is (since the old one is dead as a door nail).. but my car is an early one and I'm guessing the replacement panel is out of a later one so the plugs are completely different. Cock! I may try and find a wiring diagram and repin the plugs. Or I may just try and find the correct heater panel since there only cheap anyways. With that a resounding failure, chucked the freshly satin blacked grill back on. Doesn't look too bad considering it was made from what I had to hand and was never meant to have a grill with a surround fitted. Finished off with a fresh number plate for good measure. When it's all painted it will be having a slightly smaller (only fractionally) stick on jobby. But for now that will do. Quick check of the important levels, battery is charged, tyres inflated. And it's ready for its test-drive. Since I took it back apart (for a fabled ten minute job). It's had front fully chopped off and rewelded back on, new over twice size fmic, new one off crash bar, new rad mounts, all new mikalor clamps, new wheels, bodykit, heater matrix etc etc.. think I'm going to stop doing these ten minute jobs for a bit and get the interior back in and use it (when I get time, whenever that is).. still it's all progression towards my finished "vision" of how I want it to look.. Anyways. If all goes to plan and I get home from work with half hour to spare tomorrow. I'm going to take it for a blast to blow cobwebs off. Before I think of another 5 minute job haha Cheers

Sadly like all best laid plans the test drive on Friday didn't go to plan. I say didn't go to plan, it never happened. Youngest daughter ended up badly in hospital not helped by the almost negligent "diagnosis" by the local "doctor" Friday morning. I'm not going to go into it now, all I will say is she's home and on the mend and they will be recieving an official complaint Monday morning. But I've had other priorities this weekend!... I did manage the test drive this afternoon. We had a click an collect to collect from local retail park, that they were threatening to return if it wasn't collected (again sorry massive retail outfit been a bit preoccupied this weekend).. w@nkers 😡 Only seemed right to take the lexus and try it. And clear my head for half an hour.... So. Back to the car. How does it drive with the new big fmic, wide sticky tyres etc etc.. well erm.... It's basically undrivable in the wet 🤣🤣 it was a bit daft in the dry before. But the wet. Actual rain. Forget about it haha. I'd like to say it feels faster or the new tyres have transformed it. But it's just barmy, slightest thought of pressing the noisy pedal, and the rears are spinning like a washing machine with nowt in. A few times it tried to catch me off guard (it woke me up that's for definite).. one thing I did notice when I stopped trying to accelerate was the car feels more planted, guessing it's a combination of the wider tyres wider track etc. Still didn't stop me doing my best Tokyo drift impression out of a junction whilst following a honda jazz at walking speed 😂😂 And just to prove this tale isn't made up. Here's a picture at said local retail park. Actually out in public being used as a car 😂😂 I've got plenty to be getting on with still. Need to sort the heating out as it's chilly to say the least without it. But yeah. It works again and for now is back on the road. Cheers

That looks awesome, what are you going to do about the bodykit over the rear doors and the paint?

That looks awesome, what are you going to do about the bodykit over the rear doors and the paint? Arches will be getting a slit cut down the door shut with the 1mm disc so the back doors can open.. paintwork will be getting done when weather improves next year unless I can find some one cheap/decent/local/reliable to do it (il probably end up doing it tbh) But thanks. Looks a bit out of proportion in that pic but I'm not exactly a photographer haha

Having seen the tragic consequence of misdiagnosis before, good to hear your little one is on the mend. As to the Lexus, admit it, you never really had shopping in mind did you?

Yeah, it wasn't even so much mis diagnosis... More didn't diagnose as it's currently easier to blame everything on covid and "work from home"... it could very very easily have been a different outcome. And no, I wanted an excuse for a hoon and to get out of house for half an hour. I can't stand shopping, despise it infact haha. But it was a perfect excuse to just get out for half an hour whilst testing the car haha

Kids have this knack for scaring the bejesus out of us.......glad she is okay. A bit of tyre advise you didn't ask for, here. Read up on compounds, thread wear indicators and sidewall heights. Low profile tyres are great but a flexible sidewall is your friend if you want grip. Look at the tyres on F1 cars. A smaller, wider, wheel/tyre combo with a decent sidewall might just help.

the roads all seem to be freshly waxed at the moment, even my pathetic 200bhp has needed an armful of opposite lock recently. I can only guess at the madness of that Glad the little one is ok, one consolation of these times is that A&E is often quite empty as there's less people out getting into scrapes

Oh she's scared me alright... I'm now obsessed with the thermometer and check her every 5 mins.. she's even started saying beep beep cus of the noise the thermometer makes haha. She's definitely on mend tho cus she's back to being a terror. And yeah I fully appreciate what your saying on the tyre front. I don't think it helps that although there all premium tyres there's a mismatch of brands and tread patterns.. and as much as some more sidewall may help in the forwards momentum front.. it's going to spoil my touring car look haha
