You keeping it black ? That's going to look awesome. Sleeper is good but if you've got it, flaunt it - and you've got it by the truckload. Yeah it's all going black. Although it won't be until either weather gets better next year, or were in new unit at work so Ive somewhere warm ish and dry to paint.

Well... If it was easy everyone would do it got home from work in daylight. Fired up the big grinder and made some more clearance. Made enough space that the rad sort of fits in the gap now.. None of the original bits fit any more so will completely have to remake the lower rad mount/front cross member thing.. (ten minute job we said).. Got kids to bed, made a start on getting tools out anddddddd..... Youngest daughter got back up !!!! So with that game over. Mrs is at work tonight, were having a little Halloween party thing tomorrow night and got a list of adulting as long as my arm for Sunday god dam it!! Also found out that wel be getting new unit at work on the 9th, so we've got that to get ready and move everything up there over next 3 week.. so any spare time and early finishes will be well and truly out the window (only benefit is new place has a pit).. Anyways. I'm off to sulk and have my tea Might get to do some more soon. Maybe.

I'm beginning to realise I don't actually get anything done on car on a weekend.. this is very annoying! Still managed a couple hours last night. Went out to work on the car, blowing a howling gale and spitting with rain. But really want to get the front back on.. Didn't take many pics as tbh it's not nice working in dark and cold. Made a bit more clearance round the old rad mounts. I've managed to get the rad a good 2 inch further back, hard to tell but even with the smaller turbo you can see how much closer the rad has ended up to the turbo (still enough space not to cook the rad from the heat from the turbo tho) Got all the bottom mounts welded back in place so the rad is fully supported. Just need to remake the top mounts but that should straight forward enough.. Now we've got space atleast for the bigger fmic to go in and hopefully land behind the bumper rather than in front of it (least I hope we have not a lot I can do now) Was just finishing off the bottom mounting last weld and ran out of gas!! So that stopped play for last night, will grab a new bottle today all being well. Got plenty to be doing still but at least stuff is starting to fit again.. should have some bits arriving soon too but more on them when they do. Why did I start this job Cheers

Managed a smidge more tonight. Definitely going in the right direction... Slowly... Very very slowly First off managed to remake the top mounts for the rad. So that's mounted permenant now, its ended up a good lump higher and further back. So much so that the new much bigger intercooler is actually inside the bumper which is nice... Speaking of the new bumper obviously it was never meant to go on a car with the rad in the wrong place and the big intercooler hung out front.. Made a start on making some clearance everywhere it touched but tbh the grinding ddust was getting everywhere in the garage aand the noise was getting a bit much so had to abort that mission and will do it in daylight when I get home from work one day.. Needed to remake the front bolt on slam panel type cross member thing. On the original car it's a big daft lump of ally and although it's more than up to the job. My fmic is now living in the space it used to run through. Knocked up a couple of plates to bolt to the car and then welded a lump of box section between the two. And in place.. Don't worry I've not lost the plot, the extra foot sticking out the drivers side will be getting chopped off, but by 10 o'clock it's a bit late to start chopping thick wall box up, even in the garage.. will take it to work and wizz it off on my dinner break.. That's about were I'm at for now. Took some dimensions to make some intercooler mounts at work so will knock them up on dinner too. I've also sorted the clutch issue. Well... I say sorted. I've now got a clutch that will hold enough torque to move planets.. it's also not a straight drop in solution but it's as close as I was going to get to drop in and still hold 500+ ftlb and bhp with ease.! Also. Just look at it.. it's almost a shame to hide it away in the bellhousing. Personally I think it should be on display in the living room, but I doubt the Mrs will be keen.. It's new but "secondhand" so although it's never been fitted it's got some bits of corrosion on it. I also get the feeling I'm going to need a left leg like iron man. But that all adds to the experience... Doesn't it Anyways. Getting there slowly. May even have the front back on this weekend if things go to plan (they never do let's be honest) Cheers

Progress continues at pace. If new clutch if on heavy side could consider a servo for it - sure you could find space somewhere ! James

James I've spoken to the clutch people yesterday and he confirmed it will be heavy with a normal release bearing, and recommended I went down the concentric route. I'm not keen to change it all just yet, so wel see how it goes. I'm not 5ft 1 and 9 stone... So I should be ok... Maybe haha

a course of steroids and some leg training might be cheaper than a new release bearing

So another day. Another. Yeah. Was quiet at work this morning. Think the whole lockdown round 2 has spoilt job a bit. Saying that last time we went into lockdown work went mental as a lot of firms had shut. So wel see what next few weeks brings. Ramble over, onto cars. Took the cross member/intercooler mount to work with me, got the excess chopped off and all the welds tickled. Tbf they didn't need tidying up. How much nicer is thick wall steel to work with than poxy 1mm body panel haha. Also quickly knocked up some intercooler mounts out of some thick bar ready to weld on Didn't take any pics when I'd finished them. Will grab some tomorrow. Also had a parcel turn up with my big Evo brakes in along with adaptor brackets to run with the 365mm disc! Photo for comparison against an adult size fist! Made a start on cleaning them up, using the closest thing I had to hand to use as a parts washer.. well a bucket of TFR and a toothbrush haha. Started to look a bit better. If it wasn't for the poor paint job they've had at some point I'd have ran them. Made a start on rubbing them down. But ran out of time and patience haha Will carry on in-between other jobs tarting them up ready for paint. Colour ive picked is nice and subtle Anyways. Won't get owt done tonight, but fingers crossed for some more progess tomorrow. Maybe

You could add a servo to the clutch to make it lighter.

Steroids and leg day is option 1... Haha Failing that il look into possibly adding a servo. Or changing over to a concentric release bearing.
I'm not overly worried yet. And it will be a week or two until it's fitted regardless

What's all this fuss about the clutch bearing? You're not going to need to use the clutch much are you?

God damn fireworks!!! why do they need to be so noisy.. why do we need them to go on for two days, and why do they need to bang?!? By all means make em flash or whatever, but it's sounded like a cross between Beirut and Iraq round here last 2 nights with no sign of it stopping... This idiot is not happy (luckily the kids don't seem bothered by them) anyway rant over... trying to keep on Keeping on. Trying to get bits done were I can. My early finishes and long lunches at work are about to come to an abrupt end. Managed to get one of the calipers dusted in etch primer followed by a good few coats of high build. There not perfect but there not bad, certainly better than they were and none of the cars perfect it's been done to be used not a show queen, on the drive in the dark. On a budget (I'd like to have had them acid dipped powder coated and fully rebuilt).. maybe one day. don't worry there not staying mustard yellow, it's some more of that wierd high build haha Going to leave it a couple days to fully harden before I knock the top off with some 400 grit and see how they look.. With kids down managed another hour tonight. Got the finished cross member/ intercooler mount back in. Then got the brackets welded on for the intercooler itself.. it's a bit overengineered but it's solid as a rock. Don't worry it's not just hung. It's also sat on those little plates I knocked up that are now welded on underneath. Also refitted the remade rad mounts now they've had a coat of paint. But the question is, will the bonnet shut... Never had any doubt (I may have trimmed some more of the bonnet reinforcing away already) Next job. Get the boost pipes back on now I've had all the ends swaged.. However. The intercooler is now higher and further back. So a couple of the hard pipes are now too long and need the swaged ends cutting off. Oh cock! Figured I wasn't going to get the pipes on tonight now regardless. And need to start chopping again, so called it a day.. Least I've got a bit more done. And I'm moving forward. Slowly. Mrs is working tomorrow night too, so if kids cooperate and I'm not fully shattered il try n get a bit more done Cheers

What's all this fuss about the clutch bearing? You're not going to need to use the clutch much are you? I mean tbf I can probably put it in 6th and use it like an auto with that much torque. But i think a clutch may be useful none the less haha

Well. I did some more things. And made some more progress.. and luckily since 5th of November had turned into a 4 day thing round here no one can complain about me using the grinder at night. Least my noise and sparks are constructive FFS. Wanted to get the boost pipes buttoned up, started from the end that hasn't changed (engine/turbo) and working forward. Replaced all my old crappy pretend jubilee clips with proper mikalor jobbies, there a bit bulkier but a whole lot sturdier. Definitely not the most exciting pics I've ever posted. But it can't all be exciting can it haha.. the only 2 solid pipes I've had to shorten are the ones painted black that go direct to the cooler. I've had to take about 3 inch ish off the ends of both. So that's obviously roughly how much further back I've gotten everything. Also fitted the black 2.5-3 inch silicone adaptors I got for the new bigger intercooler. So they should be a bit less in your face. Moved onto the cooling side. Had to shorten both the bottom hose and the top hose by about inch n half. But with a bit of tweeking and a bit of faffing getting on the bottom hose after I'd fitted the boost pipes that's those back on and it's now watertight again!! The radiator is a lump higher than it was before so all being well it won't be as much of a pig to bleed now (fingers crossed).. Ideally before I refill it with antifreeze, I want to get the heater matrix replaced and plumbed in. But that's definitely a job for the daylight or atleast when my new headtorch turns up from the far East so Ive got half a chance of seeing what I'm doing. Anyways. Next jobs make the bumper fit properly with everything in place. But that can wait for today. The prospect of being covered in 50ton of fibreglass dust isn't apealing at ten o'clock on a Saturday night. So il leave it there for now. More soon! I may even get to have a drive of it again some time soon haha
