Well since its behaved for a couple hundred mile that must mean it's time to take it apart again... 🤣
Only joking but I have got stuff to do.. wants oil changing to the posh stuff along with some other bits I want to do.. figured best bet was get it over the pit and I can give everything a good once over while I'm down there.
Opened the pit to be greeted with this.. brilliant 🤷 hope my boots are waterproof
First things first get it warm and drop the oil and replace with the posh stuff and a new Bosch filter since the Fram ones were condemned when I bought em haha.
Pleased to report the oil didn't have any sparkly bits in and looked ok (if not a bit dark). I'm assuming the ARP lube that got used on assembly has muckied the oil since there was stuff knockin about when it was assembled..
Next up. New airfilter. The old one wasn't very old. But when it exploded the thermostat housing, the water was that hot it melted holes in it. Not sure if any go all the way through but for the sake of 20 odd quid didn't think it was worth the risk
When I removed the old filter I noticed the underside was visibly mucky/sludgy. Now there's a hole in the inner wing for cold air to come up through. But looking at it mucky water is also coming up that way and suckin water in doesn't seem like a good idea!!
Figured best bet was make a splash gaurd so that air could still get in but there was no direct route for the water. Found some random plastic in workshop knocked a template up, heated and bent with the heat gun, job jobbed. Might not be an engineering marvel but should work..
And with new airfilter in place (picture doesn't look great but basically there's no hole directly beneath the filter anymore)
All I really need to do now is chuck a fresh set of plugs in and it's done engine wise. Everything is nice and dry underneath not lost any coolant all good.
Speaking of coolant been having a look through the logs I've done (check me out pretending I know what I'm doing haha) and temp seems to sit pretty much bang on between 80 and 83c at all times.. so I'd say that was ok too.
Since I'm running out of excuses I may have phoned John the mapper about it going back on Dyno.. and it may be booked in haha. Not sure I want to say when and curse job again but so far I'm confident of good numbers!
More soon.
Cheers
